Pub after work, found Tiny Rebel Billabong, and I'm definitely trying some Harvey's Old Ale too.

Friday evening I had a few pints of Sambrooks Powerhouse porter. Perfect as it was pretty cold and drizzly. Makes a change from all the bitters/pale/golden/blonde ales in the pubs round here.

2015 Pannepot now. Like a cross between a barleywine and a quad. It's alright. Interesting grassy aftertaste.

I'm trying to get back into Belgian beer but failing miserably. I miss having three superfamilies of beer to dip into. These days it's just British and German, with the odd American take on either.

    St Feuillien Tripel
Tempest In the Dark We Live
    Sadlers Mud City Stout
    Arbor Yakima Valley

All pretty good but the Tempest was fantastic, beautifully balanced black IPA. Tragic if it isn't being brewed again based on the ratings page here ? Love Arbor with their proper 568 ml pint bottles as well.

Went through to Glasgow with my daughter to look at a flat for Uni. She said it was near Drygate, it was bloody nearly in Drygate...hope she takes it.

Took her to Drygate for lunch, had...
Drygate - Belgique C'est Chic, lovely saison flavour,
Mikkeller - Hop in Berlin?, very sour beer, not really my thing,
Mad Hatter - Rhubarb and Custard, another really sour beer, interesting,
Delirium - Christmas, lovely 10% serving from Delirium full of Christmas spices,
Kasteel - Cuvee du Chateau, easily the best of the beers I had, smooth, full flavoured and 11%

four days at Leeds International Beer Festival, exhausted but had some great beers. Nice to see Yeastie Boys in attendance. Tiny Rebel was first bar to sell out. Mikkeller had some interesting stuff and the Beer Cocktails were interesting. Fourpure Oatmeal Stout was really nice.

Met the Yeastie Boys at Leeds International Beer Festival, they were working the New Zealand Beer Collective Bar and I sampled several of the beers. Brought home a bottle of Tuatara Conehead, enjoying it right now.

Homebrew. Coopers sparkling ale thats held up rather well and a bottle of belgian pale ale that I wasn't particularly impressed with at first but it is improving slowly in the bottle.

Caught up with myself a bit now. At the Courtyard at King's Cross One Beast of a Beer Festival I had 12 Welsh beers and learned to appreciate CAMRA and the GBBF organisers and volunteers more. The festival started late, some of the beers hadn't arrived, many had obviously not been given time to settle, with loads of big chunks of sediment, and the bar people were clueless about what beers were what (and which were cider), as well as how to work the tills. There were also rubbish plastic cups serving as the 'souvenir glasses'. Still, the problems were being worked out in the end I guess.

    Hopcraft Napoleon Complex pale ale
    Hopcraft Devilfish Ink Black IPA
    Wrexham Lager
    Waen Lemon Drizzle pale ale
    Waen Black IPA
    Waen Hanging Rock red ale
    Waen Rough Rider pale ale
Cwrw Iaf Kia Kaha pale ale
Celt Experience Dark Age dark mild
Big Hand Brewing King's Bane bitter
    Pixie Spring Tidy Bitter
    Glamorgan Brewing Jemima's Pitchfork

Top of the rankings were the Hopcraft Devilfish Ink BIPA and Waen BIPA (a collab with Hopcraft apparently). Celt Dark Age went down a treat too. It was a lovely afternoon really, not a cloud in the sky, and the festival was outdoors. As it was near King's Cross I also popped into Sourced St. Pancras and picked up the aforementioned NZ beers too, though I'm disappointed to find the Yeastie Boys Gunnamatta IPA past the best before date by about 2 months and the Pot Kettle Black very close to it, considering they were both £4.75 each for 330ml. However the Tuatara came in the coolest bottle ever so I'm content. I think it's supposed to be a dragon-type effect or something.

So what do I drink whilst listening to this beer?
The Specials 'A message to you Rudie' or
The Clash 'Rudie Can't fail' ?

Used to live in New Zealand about 10 ten years ago but mainly drunk Monteiths and Macs beer and the very good ales at Galbraiths in Auckland like Bob Hudson. The owner shipped the hops from the UK supposedly and the place used to be packed. Craft scene looks to really have taken off and their hops are in big demand. Prices a problem and location but heard that the brewers were joining forces to ship a load of beer this way to cut costs and possibly time.
