I'd go for roundabout to try their Oktoberfest/smoketoberfest beers if they're on tap. Not traditional lagers but very well made steam beers.

Let me know what you think. I will probably snag a bottle regardless but if it is awful that may sway me.

That's a lot of money for a beer that is considerably better when fresh. I guess that's D's for ya.

Time doesn't effect a weak body. That's where KBS falls on it's face. It doesn't have the body of other big stouts.

Better than the sweetness bomb of BCBS

That would be the only thing that I would be interested in from that list, along with the Miller Light:grinning:

Well I guess there's just where differences in tastes comes into play. I completely disagree that KBS has a weak body.

Does it have a weak body compared to huge stouts (15%+) or the recent influx of adjunct laden stouts that everyone loses their shit over? Yes, it does.

Personally, I would rather have a 12oz bottle of KBS, which I feel is perfectly balanced (not too sweet, slightly roasty, great coffee, not overpowering barrel presence),as opposed to the aforementioned stouts that are in demand right now. Then again, I couldn't get 12oz of those anyway...since people only drink them in 2-4oz servings.

D's has the only list where I have to take a second and think about which is the ABV and which is the price

I couldn't have said it better myself it is far from a weak body. For instance the Oro Negro that everybody raves about has the same amount of body, but it is "the shiny new thing" so of course its better. :grinning:

To me, the body of a stout is what makes it. Without that big, viscous body, I don't think KBS holds up well against BCBS and other beers of the like. It's really good and I enjoy it. But, it's a tier behind.

I did a KBS and followed it up with a BA Narwal and shocked the shit out of myself when I liked the Narwal more.

I really was surprised by BA Narwhal, too. Amazing character from the barrels. However, I thought that was noticeably thinner than KBS.

    Diff'rent Strokes.

Off our current topic and on to a different one, @brewgentlemen has done CPA and MOMO, both awesome, single hop pales. Is this going to be a continued trend? I'd love to see a galaxy one next. Not sure what I want to see it called GAGA or Grade Point Average...

I feel like more and more beers are showing up on the market with big crazy thicknesses that are almost unnatural in mouthfeel. It's overkill.

Going to Pittsburgh this weekend to visit a college buddy and we're going to the Big Pour. After reading this thread it doesn't seem like a lot of BA's are going, but anyone have some recommendations or can't miss brews at the fest? I saw Springhouse is bringing Big Gruesome which I love, but most of the other breweries I know nothing about and have no clue on what's good.

I just found out I'm going to the second session of Big Pour. I'm gonna get to finally try Couch Brewing. :grinning:
