Later this month I'm doing a trade for a '12 Kate with the purpose of giving the Kate to one of my trading partners that hooked me up before and I owe big time (while potentially meeting another awesome Chicago BA that I'm doing the IP trade with).

However my trading partner has been dying to get his hands on a BA DL and I was wondering if the Kate plus some locals (to make up for the $50 price tag on a BA DL) is enough to get this done?

Clearly trading is subjective but any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated

    Cheers!

You'd probably have much better luck with an older vintage of Kate. Particularly with the bottle size decrease for the 2012 vintage, people haven't seemed to "value" it nearly as much.

I highly doubt this could get done unless the + is way more than locals. Kate was a lot easier to get this year with the bottle size change and increase from about 900 to 2K. I guess the fact that the brewery might not brew it again might tempt someone but i would say its a longshot at best.

Yeah I was thinking that'd be a problem. Unless someone out there has a BA DL and would love a '12 Kate (also i'd be willing to throw in tons of locals aka above $4$) But I knew this would going to be a hard sell when I started, always worth a try to ask around though

I was looking at that as my best bet as well, as I said up there I knew it was a longshot. Oh well it's looking like my trading partner will have to "settle" for a bottle of Kate haha

It's a long shot. 2 '12 Kates or one older Kate, quite possibly. But one 2012 Kate puts you behind in both volume and bottle count.

You can get a Kate for much less than a BA Dark Lord. I would say chances are slim.

If you had a Kate, original Kabert, new Kabert, Struise's BA Kate, double oaked kate, double oaked kabert, and sour kabert I think you could land a BA DL.

All that? Wow I didn't realize how off my original post was. My bad guys. I guess going to DLD really skews your impression of how many BADLs there are

I'm exaggerating a bit but people seem to ask a high price for the BA DLs. Even the not so impressive ones.

    FTFY.

That's a gross over-exaggeration. I think the four or five from that list should do it.

If you go to DLD you think everyone who has a BA DL has multiples.

Just one? I've been pretty underwhelmed by most of the ones I've had so far given what it takes to land one. I liked the brandy vanilla though.

I've had all eight, and the only one that I found disappointing was last year's Muerte (way too much green pepper tast and not enough spice).

However, I've been known to like regular ol' Dark Lord. I don't know if you can say the same...

If it helps I traded my BA DL for batch 1 bba hi fi, king henry, bcbvs, and black Tuesday, and mine was the muerte. Hope this helps op

I've had 5 or 6 of them. Never liked Dark Lord very much. I can only handle it in small doses.
