Because that's what the brewers classified it as....the ambiguity here is dually noted and think this is a good question regarding Dales Pale Ale.

However with that being said brewers classify things as stouts, porters, and black ales all the time based off of there opinion. The reality is the brewer has full authority to call the beer any damn thing they want to. This Artistic freedom has led to a lot of ambiguity in the craft beer world, but I just figure ehhh if it taste good I will drink it. I am not going to argue beer titles with anyone, let the brewers have a win.

Prime Example: Stickee Monkee ( Central Coast Quad ) WTF haha.... this could have only been done on the central coast cracks me up....

In the words of the great Bruce Hornsby and the Range, that's the way it is...

Because Oskar Blues calls it a pale ale. Why is this even being discussed?

I just think it's funny this kind of thing bothers people so much, but evidently it does.

    He's referring to this:

But of course the BJCP is really just designed for homebrew competitions, not as a end-all be-all authority on beer styles.

Thanks for providing the easy link - and reading it confirms that style description is sufficiently broad enough to cover DPA in my opinion. It is a maltier beer than most (can't think of even one nationally distributed right now) of my preferred IPA's and I find many other pale ales a little bland for me while still enjoyable, but Dales delivers enough IBU's I feel I am getting what I crave. Dales is one I have sought out for years specifically for the can, and thrilled it came in a large can. Sure, there is a lot more competition in canned beer these days, so I have overlooked Dales too many times - will remedy this today.

Cigar City Invasion Pale Ale fools me as well, but I buy the snot out of it. What I really want to know is what's the difference between an orange?
