What does this mean? I'm unfamiliar with this concept

Would love to try your stash Shuggy but unfortunately won't be able to meet up on Saturday. I'll take a raincheck for a future date.

I spent last Friday and Saturday night in Market Square before the Pirates games...it's really turned into a happening area. I was pleasantly surprised. I'm assuming it was because of the Pirates being in town. But there was a lot going on and a lot of people crammed in down there. Downtown used to be completely dead, so it was nice to see.

I actually happened to take notice of the Poros construction and dismissed it as some sort of yuppy seafood place. Funny that it's actually going to be a craft beer bar...sign of the times.

We can't be that degenerate...the majority of this thread's posts come between the hours of 7-10 AM. :stuck_out_tongue: Means we're all up being (or pretending to be) productive...

Up at 4AM weekdays and not much later on weekends--morning person. Work isn't saturated with meetings until late morning, but I usually fall silent after dinner, which is time spent convincing the kids that they need to sleep each night or their bodies will fail.

You're right. I should have added something about Head Hunter. Although, I do miss the ability to go to any GE and have a fresh four pack of it ready.

I'd be able to meet up with you Saturday to try your beer, since you're offering.

Hope you didn't go to Nola on the Square. I have never had a worse experience at a restaurant in my life. The food was quality but not even close to enough to make up for the people they have working there. Anyone who reads this should avoid at all costs.

Actually had a few decent experiences there, but don't recall the service--could've went downhill since my last visit. My only real memory is the décor and slamming Turbo Dog and Purple Haze; so guess the beer list wasn't fantastic.

I think that big horny devil guy got banned.

@barflybastard I was just about to say something glut-shaming YardHouse. There were two within 15-20min of me back in Boston, and I never really had a good taste in my mouth from either. Im sure each one varies slightly. But the locations Im familiar with would have SUPER inflated prices for their beers. Like $9 Road to Ruin 12oz. Or a pint Harpoon IPA for $7.50 and such, when you can get it anywhere else for $5. Maybe it was due to the novelty of it all? I'd be interested to try a different location though. hopefully this place's prices are reasonable.

The market sq area has been bumpin every time I've been there. Granted its only been since May. But it never seems empty. Even Sunday mornings for yoga  but yea, the rest of downtown seems desolate in terms of extracurricular activities with th exception of point state park.

Long story not so short. I got Jumbalaya that was about $35. Packed with seafood, chicken, sausage, etc. It was really good. Ate about half and asked for a box. They proceeded to throw my dinner away, get pissed at me for claiming I asked for a box, pointed me out to the cooks saying "He told me to throw it away and now he changed his mind saying he wants to take it home" (I know this because they have an open kitchen and I saw/heard it). My "leftovers" consisted of par-cooked rice and sausage, which i threw away anyway for fear on sabotage. The old fashioned I had was good, well what was left of it was good, after the waitress dumped half on the table and shook it off her hand onto my shirt.

Think I've been to YH in Portland, LA and Orlando, and while the differ somewhat, they all contain a majority percentage of tap list turds and their food is an uninspiring afterthought. I'm sure it attracts a certain crowd, but it's like the Olive Garden of chain craft beer. Pricing is poop, but the staff was cordial enough and let me taste to confirm butter wasn't coming out of the lines at each location.

Feel the Market Square has come a long way over the past few years, but the weekends have benefited most from injected life. But sup on a Tuesday at 630PM and it's still a Scooby Doo ghost town for the most part (unless there's spillover from some event the theater district). The new restaurants are helping to change this though.

Sounds awful. Would expect that at Al's (joking!). Wouldn't go back if that happened to me either.

There are also three kick ass restaurants (Grit & Grace, Butcher and the Rye, tako) within a block of Market Square that I would definitely suggest checking out, although advance reservations are for sure needed at tako.
