I mean, butchering pronunciation is generally fine with me within reason. I can stomach 'heefuhweezin', since it's a rough English approximation of what those letters are.

For Belgian beers, as long as you're pronouncing the ij as "eye" or "ay", you're fine, but I will cringe ever time I hear it as an "idge". That's not to say I'll be a dick and correct you when it's wrong though, it just makes me shudder a bit inside, and then I take another sip of delicious Belgian beer and let it be.

Stopped at a place last week that had a few cases of SN Oktoberfest. None today. The other spot I tried last week promised the Oktoberfest by this week. Nada. SN Okto is a White Whale in my area. Fortunately, there is a lot of Bavarian Okto around -- surprising since last year they was barely any.

Also, the second spot still has quite a few 12 packs of SN's Summerfest, and since Summer has made an encore here in N. Illinois, it's tasting pretty good.

What are the dates on the Summerfest?

Also, if you see it all definitely pick up the Sierra Nevada mix pack. I split one with my roommate and we're already down to one beer.

The Vienna might be the most drinkable beer I've had this month (this includes all the stellar Oktoberfests), Tumbler is still a great brown ale in my opinion (something I forget every year), the pale ale is as always spot on, and believe it or not the Fireside was quite enjoyable for me. Fireside tastes like an old school IPA recipe, more Celebration than tropical fruit.

Oh, it's definitely no ticker's desire, 04.10.15, but it still tastes good for a light, crisp, easy drinker -- something I'm sort of happy to have after all the Oktos.
You know I was going to mention that I haven't seen that anywhere around here (@sierranevadabill). Don't know what the deal is -- maybe the distros are waiting for later in the true season. Even saw the Summer pack alongside the Summerfest.
Love to try the Vienna again, and I would never turn down anything brewed by SN. The Pale Ale will always remain a solid favorite for me. Be interested to try the Fireside (Flipside?) now, though I think I did try it last year (maybe?).

This is the first I've had it. The Centennial hops stand out to me, and I liked the mouthfeel, a bit creamier. Malt profile is interesting with wheat and chocolate malts used. Here's the specs compared to Celebration for instance.

Now that you mention it, I do kind of remember thinking it was Celebration-like.

Currently drinking a The Crisp from Sixpoint which recently gained a spot in the monopoly. The beer lives up to the name, dry as a bone and with a prominent bitter-hoppy punch. This is really nice, it hits all the notes that I want from this kind of beer: a modern craft-beer lager with the hops cranked up.

Shane (@Sixpoint) will be glad to know that you enjoyed this beer. It is one of my favorite US brewed Pilsners.

    Cheers!

I can definitely see why. I'm thinking about putting it head-to-head against Nya Carnegiebryggeriet's Kellerbier this weekend which should be interesting, both are modern hop forward pale lager beers with American influences (Nya Carnegiebryggeriet being the brewery started by Brooklyn Brewery and Carlsberg Sweden).

Patrik, you personally did not mention the malt backbone of this beer in your prior post but I do indeed enjoy that aspect of Crisp in addition to the hop aroma/flavor. There is no doubt that hops are the primary flavor contributor but the malt backbone is an enjoyable quality as well (at least to me it is).

    Cheers!

I will preface this by saying that the beer I had now was straight out of the fridge, but the beer did have a light malt taste to it, but wasn't a standout flavor. I'll be sure to take note of it as I drink the beer at my usual beer-drinking temperature, i.e room-temp :stuck_out_tongue:. Don't expect any detailed descriptions however, beyond "tastes like caramel malt", "tastes bready" or "tastes roasted", my vocabulary of malt tastes is sorely lacking. If it wasn't there I would be more apt to remark on it in most cases than if it's there, it (malt) just tastes like beer to me (beyond the specific tastes listed above).

    Patrik,

My vocabulary for malt flavors when it comes to a beer like Crisp is pretty limited as well. I would simply state something like: Pilsner malt flavor.

    Cheers!

    Like the "reveal."

Got fresh SN Okto (July) chillin' for the evening. Hoping to talk the wife into brats on the grill to celebrate the start of the Oktoberfest.

Ha, thanks. I didn't mean to set it up to reveal what the beer was, but it turned out alright huh?

Well, it's now officially the number one Oktoberfest here on Beeradvocate. Next up I'm going to try it on draft.

Anyone want to guess what my favorite beer was from my obnoxious list of pictures above?

That bar is also tapping a Warsteiner wooden barrel this Saturday that I'm hoping to try. Believe it or not, I've had the regular Warsteiner Oktoberfest before (it's a pale Oktoberfest), and it's not too shabby.

I was just thinking that yesterday, but so far the SN beer finder shows it nowhere on tap near me.
The biggest one? :grinning: (The Paulaner looks good too)
Nice. Didn't know they even used wooden kegs.

I brought a bottle of SN Oktoberfest to a co-worker who hadn't found it yet. He reciprocated by bringing me a bottle of Great Lakes Oktoberfest... not sure if I ought to feel insulted ().

I tried the GL first and thought it was actually musty smelling (might have been DMS, but there was more going on), and it tasted very thick and full of mild fruit esters. Malt was in there -- in a very sweet, lightly toffee-ish character, but coupled with the esteriness and alcohol the beer tasted like an Old Ale.

Just took my first mouthfull of a new SN and it's full of bready, crackery malt with spicy hops in the finish. Clean and softly smooth with delicious lager goodness.

Crazy how many interpretations of a style there can be.

I love the SN Oktoberfest. It's good enough where the only other one I've bothered with is the one from Left Hand. It's of the sweeter and bolder variety while the SN one is more subtle and clean.
