I have been wanting to get into home brewing for quite some time, and now I have the space that I can pretty much do whatever I want (only limited by funds) I recently picked up a 4 tap kegerator that needs some cleaning up, and want to start brewing some beer to use in it. I have been debating on just going with a cheap diy set up for now and upgrade piece by piece as I get the money, but I came across this for sale on Craigs list http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/for/5217551884.html and it has me tempted. What do you all think?

    Thanks for your input!

The link was deleted by the author. I've shifted my first step to brewing from reading How To Brew to brewing alongside an experienced Brewer. If you are still or even more fascinated with it, they can steer you towards equipment that can grow and adapt and those uni-taskers that you can/can't brew without. Also join a Homebrew club. Most are filled with at least a few humble Brewers that quietly brew fantastic beer.

Definitely read how to brew first and foremost. Or the joy of homebrewing. Depends on how serious you take your hobbies/passions to how deep you get. The link you posted didn't work but I'll say if you think this is a hobby/passion you will pursue for a very long (forever) time always err on the side of bigger and better. Don't go cheap, youl be better off in the long run.

That being said I brew beer (mostly) in a 7.5 gallon kettle, with a paint strainer bag. Making wort is easy stuff. Fermentation temp, and yeast pitch are the two main factors you need to research.

Welcome to the BA site and to this great hobby of homebrewing. I'll echo reading Palmer's howtobrew.com online, or purchase the updated edition at a good bookstore or at Amazon, etc.

Your best bet for a variety of opinions about equipment is to read back 8-10 pages of this forum. Your question is one that is asked frequently here, so there are plenty of opinions and suggestions in these older threads. You could do a search using the key word 'equipment' but too many threads with individual responses come back in the list, which makes it more difficult to read. Following the progression of a thread from the beginning always makes more sense.

Is it just me or is it getting sticky in here?
