Lizard king probably will not hit shelves until late this week or next week, and pistachio was my favorite abduction, salt n chocolate bomb.

It has to almost be pipeworks barrel aged season...this is the week that really kicked it off last year starting with over the line!

It's the same recipe sans a few percentage points of base/character malt to bring it from 8.5 to 8.0% ABV. Still 5lbs of hops per barrel (in a slightly smaller OG). Did you try pouring it into a glass? I find there is obvious differences when drinking it from the can directly because you are missing all the aromatics. However, when poured into a glass it's as good if not even better than it's ever been. And I'm always hypercritical of NVU since the first day we made it in 2012.

Yes I poured it into a glass. Four times. It tasted and smelled considerably different from the previous bombers and not in a good way.

Did they substantially increase the volume of Sure Bet? There were literally 8-12 bottles on the shelf at the Binny's on Grand yesterday afternoon.

My experience is that ever since they started canning beers, they have been able to up the production of their bombers such as the fish series. It's made them much easier to get, which is relieving, so I don't have to get to Binny's the same day they are delivered.

There was 3-4 cases of it at the Buffalo Grove Binnys a few days after it was delivered there. The cans are awesome and if that means these bombers will be higher volume going forward well that's just the icing on the cake!

That's fine, because this is a Pipeworks thread, and Pipeworks was responding to a comment about their beer.

I've always been confused by that. Unless you're saying that not smelling your beer too much improves the taste, I can't see what advantage you'd get from drinking from a can. I would agree with the original statement that while the taste is essentially the same, you are missing out on much of the aroma of the beer beforehand. I've actually been testing this with the last few cans I've had (War Bird, Lizard King and Unsessionable by Rev, if I remember correctly), and I've found each time that I'm better served giving the beer some air. I guess I'd side with PW on this one, although I've only had one can of Heady, so I can't speak too much to that side of things.

Im pretty sure the can statement has to do with the apperance of the beer. Heady is an ugly drity looking beer but tastes delicious.

Yeah, I guess that's true. I'm just surprised they're willing to sacrifice smell (and by extension, taste) just because the beer looks weird.

I am a big fan of the availability of the bomber beers as of late.

And not to bring up other beers in a PW thread, but it does seem that, in general, I haven't had to chase as much recently for almost any beer. I don't know if it's the sheer number of choices, increased production, or a combination, but it's nice walking in and see beers I want just sitting on the shelf/display.

nothing to disagree with. it's science yo.

    http://www.webmd.com/diet/science-how-we-taste

    "Flavor vs. Taste
Flavor and taste seem like the same thing, but hold your nose when you're eating and you'll quickly draw a distinction.

"Most people think that flavor is the same as taste, but that's not true," says Stein. "The distinctive flavor of most foods and drinks comes more from smell than it does from taste."

While sugar has a sweet taste, strawberry is a flavor. While coffee may be bitter, it's aroma is also all about flavor.

"An airway between the nose and mouth lets people combine aroma with the five basic tastes to enjoy thousands of flavors," says Stein.

Still not sure of the difference? Stein recommends the jellybean test.

"Take two red jellybeans of differing flavors, such as cherry and strawberry," Stein tells WebMD. "While holding your nose tightly closed, pop one of the jellybeans into yourmouth and chew. Try to identify the flavor. You'll know that it's sweet but won't be able to determine whether it's cherry or strawberry until you let go of your nose and let the olfactory information whoosh up into your nose.""

It's awesome picking up less than a week old Lizard King that's still cold from the delivery truck/van. Thank you, PW!

FWIW, there are still 3-4 cases of Sure Bet sitting on the floor at Binny's Oak Brook. I was able to grab another one for myself and one to ship to a friend in CA.
