Just on draught or in bottles? Really wish Mahrs made it out to AZ. I think I've seen a random one off (i.e., Christmas Bock) at Total Wine every now and then, but it's super irregular.

We did just start getting Schonramer, which I haven't tried out yet.

Out of curiosity: Which Schönramers do you get- the traditional bavarian styles or also the craft beers like their Imperial Stout, their Bayerisch Pale or their IPA:wink: ?

Ha, just the traditional stuff! I've seen the Gold, Pils, Saphir Bock, and I believe the Dunkel as well. They're fairly pricey -- $6 USD for a 0.5L bottle, and, as ever with imports, freshness can be an issue. But I'm sure I'll eventually grab some, especially if I can find some fresh ones.

I already guessed that, but I had some hope:wink: The Pils is nowadays often said to be among the best german Pilsner. Not being a fan of the Style, I won't comment on that. The Dunkel is ok, but to much in the soft, nutty munich style for my taste.Their bayerisch Pale Ale is very nice though, as it focusses a lot on Mandarina Bavaria hops while still being very quaffable.

lol i like the nutty Dunkels.

Ive had quite a few Schönramer Beers incl. their BA Stouts.
Their Gold and Imperial Stout were o.k.,the Rest ranges from good to fantastic for me.
The Saphir Bock is the only Heller Bock ive liked thus far.It has a real nice white wine and steffi malt character

Just in bottles, and the owner of the store where I get them told me that some other Mahr's beers will be coming as soon as the labels are approved by our incompetent TABC.

Picked up a bottle of Amaris 50 from Riegele's BierManufaktur Brauspezialitaeten Series (Augsburg). Purchased at Getraenke Oase (nice store by the way) in Muenchen on October 12, 2015. Consumed on October 14.

    Notes -

Batch No. 15/15/1. Best before June 11, 2016. I would describe this beer as a Keller-Pils.

Look: Hazy, pale gold hue. Obscured clarity, frothy off-white head sticks around; good lacing.

Smell: Light skunk upon opening which quickly dissipates. Grassy, lemon, floral notes. Nose is strikingly similar to Victory Prima Pils. Aromatic noble hops shine.

Taste: Grassy undertones, lemony spritz; earthy, herbal hop characteristics.

Feel: Bitterness is there but not overwhelming. Clean, crisp, dry finish. Medium mouthfeel.

Overall, a nice unfiltered pilsner more German (read: hoppy) than Bohemian in style. Recommended.

I've started randomly seeing more Mahr's in Colorado. We even started getting Mastodon again. I was under the impression that was a 1-off beer for the Hunter album, but these bottles are fairly fresh.
Shelton lists Mahr's Weisse, but I still have yet to see that one stateside. I think it's the best wheat beer I've ever had, and I've had a lot.

Agreed - I enjoyed several Mahr's Weisses this past summer while in Bamberg. It was particularly good after a 5-hour bike ride.

Speaking of Bamberg, does anyone know where herrburgess has been? I haven't seen anything from him in some time and he was always a frequent, welcome contributor on this forum.

Finding fresh U would be great! In south carolina we get a few Mahrs but no weisse or U and it seems very old...

This past weekend I had the opportunity at a local beer bar to conduct a side-by-side tasting of Andechs Festbier and Stoudts Oktoberfest.

The Andechs Festbier is a Pale Oktoberfest (Weis’n style) beer. It is a tasty, malty beer but the level of sweetness was on the hairy edge of being too sweet for my palate. I enjoyed drinking this beer but it is not something that I personally would purchase or seek out.

The Stoudts Oktoberfest had a very pleasant bready malt flavor with rich melanoidin character. This is a beer that I could drink many of.

You can read a more detailed review of Stoudts Oktoberfest here: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/new-beer-sunday-week-556.345506/#post-4163002

    Cheers!

I apologize for being a bit lax here lately ... Have been back from Europe 2 weeks now.... but have been working weekdays and last weekend I had a WWII re-enacting event.... Just getting my pix sorted and edited, though I have uploaded all my new Bier reviews.... Hope to have some sort of trip recap posted soon.... Prosit!!

So I found Paulaner Wies'n Festbier locally -- still October, so I guess I'm safe. Best by June of 2016, so not bad.

The beer is typical of Paulaner's beers; malty, but very dry in the finish. I notice that half way thru the second bottle the dryness becomes a little less cloying and the malt sweetness makes the beer very enjoyable. I probably like HB's and Weihenstephaner's Wies'n better, but the Paulaner is a good alternative.
