Just booked my first solo beer trip to Portland! So excited!

I DO need some advice though:

I won't be renting a car (unless I decide to just for a day to head to deGarde), I take it Portland is a fairly easy city to get around on foot/public transportation.

By the way, if I end up renting a car and driving to Tillamook, how bad is the snow usually during that drive in February?

Cascade is #1 on my list, so if someone could recommend me some decent hotels in that area, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm no means rich, but I don't want to get sent back home to SoCal in a body bag! Any advice you have for this SoCal girl to have the best beer experience in Portland would be awesome!

    Thanks!!

I don't think you'll encounter any snow whatsoever if you went to Tillamook.

There could be some going over the coast range though.

As for places to stay, you'll probably find the best hotel deals near the airport, or maybe near the convention center. Downtown will be more pricey and expensive to park if you rent a car. I always recommend the Jupiter Hotel, which is really close to a lot of breweries. It's probably in the mid to upper $100s per night, but they could have deals going that time of the year. And in none of those areas listed will you be at risk of leaving in a body bag. There are very few places in Portland where that would be a risk at all, actually.

It's my first trip, I found a hotel near Portland State, but I know that's a ways from a lot of breweries. Since I'm not renting a car, I think I can splurge a tad on a hotel

@guajolote has your back, & he's right about my misguided help. I'm not even trying to be snarky. I'd def 2nd Jupiter Hotel.

I used to stay at a Travelodge near Portland State when I'd visit Portland 6 or 7 years ago. It's easy to walk downtown from there, and you can use Portland's good public transit to get around. A $5 TriMet day pass is good on all buses, MAX trains, and the Portland Streetcar.

We didn't give a ton of helpful information in the Tillamook thread update?
I find that incredibly hard to believe.

Maybe we should add a "where to rent a clamgun" section to the Tmook thread?

I can't believe how we are holding out here......

[insert sarcasm font] The Civic Taproom and The Loyal Legion are the most popular beer destinations in the PDX area. [/sarcasm font]

Seriously, you will be fine. Portland is a great beer town with lots of nooks and crannies coupled with good public transportation. Staying near the airport is cheaper IMHO and you will have good access to the rest of the area.

    ChinoChino,

That's what I was thinking, but I might just bite the bullet and stay downtown to be within walking distance of as much as possible.

If anyone feels like taking me to deGarde when I'm in town, I'll buy gas

Enough for me to drive down from Vancouver BC, to DeGaarde, and back home for me

If you stay at any of the Kimpton brand hotels downtown they have bikes you can use for the day free of charge. Makes getting around even easier!

Don't forget about AirBnb! I'm seeing plenty of rooms available for under $100 a night in Southeast for that timeframe.

With the extra you'd pay for a Kimpton hotel you could just buy a bike...

How many days are you staying in Portland? If you are only there for a couple I would say don't bother heading to deGarde.
The brewery is great but that's a lot of trekking for one stop.
