'Are [American] IPAs an acquired taste?'

I'm not sure how those pungent fruit flavours could be offputting to someone who already drinks beer. I wonder what my compatriots think? I find that thread a teensy bit self-congratulatory.

    Been smashing the homebrew recently.

But as I nipped into waitrose here for a change I picked up some fresh Bengal Lancer and am currently enjoying it. Been ages since the last one, lovely tangerine flavour from it. Also got a few other bottle conditioned ales to build up some yeast for more homebrew

    De Dolle Brouwers Oerbier
Wiper and True In the Pines

The Dolle went up like Vesuvius and had to reach quickly for the Orval Chalice to contain it. Lost a little which was a shame as it was another cracking Belgian strong ale. The W and T up to their usual standards altho In the Groves just shades it for me. List likely to rise dramatically next week in Copenhagen, Mikkeller and Friends, Fermentoren, WarPigs etc. await.

Nipped into Wholefoods this morning - got De Ranke Bitter XX and Saison de dottingnies, brewpooch candy kaiser, black isle scotch ale, st peters porter, munchhausen sour altbier.

They have increased their Stone and Rogue offerings, mainly the big bottle formats and so expensive, some of which had a drink by July. baws to that

Is Wholefoods in Glasgow Hanglow? Not a place I've even heard of, but fancy a visit if those are some of the beers on offer.

Yes, it's in Giffnock though so a bit out of the centre. They have stores in London and a lot in the US where they got the nickname Whole Paycheck due to their prices. It's valid here too, they are more expensive than M&S and Waitrose .

It's a fairly small size compared to the other ones, think Aldi sized I guess, but their beers selection is pretty good and they have growler fills if you are into that - they had WEST St Mungo, Oktoberfest , Fyne Jarl and one other

Thanks for that, looked it up. A wee bit out the way as you say, but maybe worth a look if I was driving to Glasgow. Do they have much I couldn't get in Valhalla's Goat, Hippo or The Cave?

I don't think so really, it's very good for a supermarket and very good for the southside but I don't think there's much more than the others really

There's also the new Good Spirits beer+wine shop on West Nile street if you are ever in town, it's pretty small but has a good few nice beers .

    Sorry to hear that
    their loss mate

In other news, this Coil Oil, bah!

Yep, as I thought its the mouthfeel that lets it down
are all Barnsley bottles flat or just those sent to budget/bargain stores
Also, this is also painfully thin for the style & flavour.

Now into the investment case of 2014 Vintage Ales. For quality control or something I guess.

    SNAB Roock decent
but at nearly £4 for 330ml (okay import spec shop) it needed a whole lot more
having an 80p Kentucky IPA which is better, not much but at a 1/5 of the price it seems a lot better.

Popped into 'Spoons earlier for their beer fest, had...

Zululand - Zulu Blonde, meh!, almost tasteless.
Fat Head - Yakima Sun, nice fresh floral taste, liked,
Nogne O - Nordic Noir, Fandabidozi! everything a good oatmeal stout should be, had a few of these.

Cheers for the comments about the dogfish head beers, traveled to York from Derby to pick some up, loving the American beers at the minute, got a few pumpkin beers for the weekend.

Which dfh did you get? Yeah we picked up some pumpkin ones last week too, specifically the Brooklyn post road and flying dog pumpkin ipa. Didn't get the brewdog or beavertown, had them last year though. Might get if see again.

I'll let it warm up a bit maybe

Couldn't give a monkeys about the rugby but I had to try Greene King's Scrum Down. Very woody/spicy indeed with great lacing. Very nice I thought.

    Brouwerij Verhaeghe Duchesse de Bourgogne
    Oakham Citra
    Affligem Dubbel
    Wychwood Dunkel Fester

Duchesse, decent sour Flanders Red Ale which I personally preferred a little over Rodenbach Grand Cru due to its higher sweetness. Looks like a Marmite type of beer judging by the ratings but I would drink it again. DF, better Wychwood offering, would be better with more body.
