I think most folks interest and/or tolerance for pumpkin beers is pretty limited.

My first October here in Eugene (2013), the Bier Stein held a huge pumpkin beer tap take over. I want to say they had something like 30 of them on tap, and they advertised the hell out of the special event. The actual day of the pumpkin fest, there was a very strong turn out. The problem was, that after the event itself, there was a significant drop off in interest. A couple weeks later, there were still about 25 pumpkin beers on tap, and business at the BS really suffered (you would see folks come in, take a look at the tap list, and just walk out). I remember talking to the then manager, and he basically acknowledged that having that many pumpkin beers on tap at one time had likely been a mistake. We both agreed that we liked pumpkin beers up to a point, but that they seemed to be more of a novelty item, and not the sort of thing you wanted to make a habit of drinking.

For most folks, I think a glass or two, or maybe one 6 pack, is about the limit as to how much pumpkin beer they want to drink (and then only in fall and winter).

It's good, but like most Rogue fancy bottle beers, not worth the price. They do use freshly roasted pumpkins in the ingredients (I've seen them roasting them at the brewery).

Get a bottle of Reuben's Imperial Pumpkin instead. It was real tasty when I had it on draft.

Not a big pumpkin beer fan, but I prefer the porter and stout examples. Elysian Dark o' the Moon is tasty. I was hoping for Burnside to bottle Dapper Skeleton again this year: it eschewed the typical pie spices for more savory flavors.

Haven't enjoyed a pumpkin beer since before I left MA...it was Smuttynose's. It was a vegetal brown-ish ale, & honestly what I wanted. No real spice or syrup...just how shitty it was for colonial America.

So...here's a thing: I've been trying some dark pumpkin ales, and although I've hit across a couple that I really did not like (Epic's Imperial Pumpkin Porter being one), I have really liked a few others that I have tried:

Elysian Dark o' the Moon (the driest of the stouts I sampled, and kind of a cinnamon bomb, but it works!)
Ninkasi Imperial Pumpkin Sleigh'r (not as much pumpkin flavor as you would think, but it also works, at least for me)
Southern Tier Warlock (this is almost bordering on too sweet, but I still liked it)

After these successes, I decided to try Pumking again, and...I happen to think it's delicious.

I can't explain my 180 on this beer, other than that there was possibly something wrong with the keg or the tap lines of the place where I got my pour a few years back, or something. The brew I experienced from the bottle this time is completely different from the disgusting mess I had before.

    *shrug*,

I really hope Boneyard's Orange is the New Jack comes back. Being a Boneyard beer, it was the hoppiest pumpkin beer I've ever had and it was totally awesome!

Haven't heard anything about it this year, it would be out already if they were doing it again. :slight_frown:
