Had this same experience. However with all the great beer coming out of Colorado right now, I don't think I'll be buying much of this. It was good in Vegas but Vegas kinda sucks for good beer...

I found Citra Rye in the singles cooler of Small Batch last Sunday. I shrugged my shoulders and bought two of them, one of which may be landing in Georgia today. It was pretty decent IMO. I think the canning date is on the bottom, I remember it being pretty dang fresh, but it's possible I'm wrong.

Superfan 3.0 re-addition of Citra was an awesome move. Just had sample at the brewery, fantastic! They are doing a good job with the NE style IPA.

Yeah, I"m gonna disagree.... Version 1.0 has been the best by far... I just got a six pack of 3.0 and it's not bad, but, it's just not on par with the first two....

I had a galaxy IPA at Societe this summer and it was one of the best beers I've ever had. I might take a trip back out to San Diego next summer just so I can visit Societe again. Oscar Blues new IPA has galaxy (I like it cause it is not a malt bomb) but it doesn't have enough hops in it.

We have a bunch of Mosaic under contract, but it's primarily allocated to our red IPA, Eric the Red. Eric uses Simcoe, Citra, Columbus, and gets a big dose of Mosaic in the dry hop. There's definitely some overlap between the two in terms of hops bill because of the Citra and Simcoe, so keeping Mosaic out of Codename was a conscious decision to differentiate the two flavor profiles.

Galaxy is quite difficult to contract. The growth we are aiming for wouldn't be possible if we built a core beer around it.

It's so interesting to hear how hops work from the brewer's perspective. I don't feel like many people think of it in that way, myself included.

People like Galaxy? Go buy Galaxy! Ha, that's how my homebrews work anyway. Same thing, right?

Nah, I'm far from a brewer by any means. I like to consume beer though.

That was how my homebrew worked too, which made planning/contracting difficult when we opened the brewery. We ended up with Mosaic as the signature hop in Eric the Red almost by accident. It was before Mosaic really exploded, and we were able to get a little on spot and contract some. I had never even brewed with it when we contracted it, so I immediately did a bunch of pilot (read: homebrew) batches of Eric with it to see how it worked. I loved it, and that beer has been our flagship since day one. Codename:Superfan is closing on it very quickly though.

Drinking a 3.0 now. BIG fan. I personally like it much better than 1.0 and 2.0
