I have to assume it has something to do with having a tap room and license to sell beer on premise, but I do not know the specifics. Pipeworks and Spiteful are strictly production breweries right now.

Dropped by a Binnys on my way home from work yesterday and to my surprise was able to score a bottle of the Final Act. Had to choose between that and Jones dog, went with Final Act because I was able to try Jones Dog at FOBAB.

proper permits and licensing. lots of stupid beer sales and distribution laws. right now all they have is a production facility with I dont believe can sell straight to people. They are also permitted to self distribute which puts a lot of limitations on what they can and cant do.

makes sense. Im sure when they eventually open a taproom the release for their BA beers will change.

Probably, but realistically, this isnt some huge recurring problem. In 4 years it's happened exactly twice, this time and when abduction/jones hit in February. Hopefully now that they have a bigger facility, production will increase and there will be more to spread around next time.

Thanks for the feedback. I love pepper heat, so this is great news for me! I always wished the base had more of that (the very first batch did but too many people complained. I loved that heat though).

Good to hear on this as well, as I prefer my coffee stouts to be very coffee forward. You both have appeased my senses, I will definitely be opening these sooner rather than later.

I had the day off to take the kids shopping, see Santa, etc., so beforehand I picked up one of each of the BA beers today at Binny's LP. I got there a couple minutes before 9 and was probably the 25th person or so in line. I think there ended up being about 35 people. They let everyone buy one bottle of each - Santa came early for me!

    35 people...in line...on a random Friday morning...for PW BA beers.

What the hell is going on???

    (congrats on your hall, btw)

The fact that people lined up and waited for these is a problem.

I'm really starting to hate this city.

I mean, this isn't anything new - the last batch of BA Abduction & Jones Dog (Feb this year I think) saw guys lining up in stores as well - if anything this time around they made more (at least of Jones Dog) and it wasn't too bad to track down a bottle. The Binnys I stopped in had 3 of the 4 barrel releases (all but the Chilli one) on the shelf for most of the afternoon, so it wasn't exactly a mob scene...

Chicago beer nerds have a tendency to create lines when not needed, like recently Abraxas at WLV and BT.

My favorite is LP Binny's BCBS release. I ask, which hurts the most after waiting in line for 5+ hours in Severe weather. Getting the lowest allotment in the City like in 2014 or lining up over night to see others show up at open and get the same thing you did.

So I dont get worked up about the lined up people/loiterers/whatever. If thats what they wanna do with their time, whatever, good for them...

But man, if I owned a liquor store I'd tell every one of those guys just hanging around not buying anything to leave and make room for actual paying customers. I dont need randoms standing around wasting time.

I'm shocked any store had this stuff actually on a shelf. Consider yourself lucky.

Let's not get carried away. These are limited release barrel aged beers. Most PW BA stuff is put out on the shelves. Despite what traders wanna make it sound like.

All places I went had it only by asking the shopkeep who had it behind the counter.

Let's keep inflating those values kids. Plenty of places I've been to have kept 120 minute behind the counter, does that make it hard to get? I've never seen BA PW behind the counter.

BG Binnys had one bottle of end of days sitting behind the counter. I passed, chilies are not my thing.

I'm not trying to create hype, I just wanted one of each to try (got Jones Dog) no plans to trade, but everywhere in the city sold out well before it hit shelves. I called several places and they basically laughed at me b/c it sold out almost instantly and I had the audacity to hope for a bottle avail after work.
