I have never seen a PW BA bottle on the shelf

The barrel aged deli meat one and barrel aged sweet potato one were on the shelf for a bit. And I dont remember the revival being particularly hard to track down.

But as far as the ba stout ones, not since Jones dog 12 oz of early 2014.

Jones Dog has been released like twice since then. My point is As You Wish, The Coqui, The Revival, The Money, The Jones Dog, The Delicatessen, The Last Kiss, and The Murderous have all been on the shelves. I understand people saying they've never seen them on shelves but sometimes you have to look for it on the shelves.

PW BA sits on shelves. People think they are limited and demand a high trade value because people lined up or stalk a few popular places that keep up with their social media accounts or that are known for releasing the left over FWB stash on Fridays. In a few weeks, just like all the other BA PW they will lose trade value. See BA Abduction for example.

Anyplace I normally go these were scooped up very quickly. If anyone sees BA End of Days laying around on a shelf, please let me know, as I'd like to try it.

I'm glad this only happens to BA PW beers

BA Pipeworks beers, BA Spiteful beers, BA Goose Island beers, non BA FFF, PW and HA beers... It'd be niave to think that this kind of mentality will not expand into more and more releases.

I say just let them have their alternative sense of reality. You know its bad when People are lining up at Beer Temple for Final Act while Merkin is sitting on shelf untouched. If you really think PW is making better comparable BA styles then FSW you really need to evaluate your purchases.

But... but... you can't taste the rare if you buy it off a shelf!

Only barrel aged pipeworks beers I've seen sit on shelves are the ones that aren't stouts, murderous, or last kiss.

I love fsw but I'll take ba abduction, jones dog, murderous, last kiss, or as you wish over velvet merkin any day.

I stand corrected and will need to rephrase...

I have never seen a BA PW stout, porter, or barleywine on the shelf and the only one I have seen at all was The Revival. I did try to track down these new releases but struck out on all four as well as Darkness. Unfortunately I work until 5:30 M-F so I did not have much hope to begin with.

Final Act and Merkin are both oatmeal stouts. Comparable styles. BA Abduction = Parabola, Murderous = Sucaba. If you were given the choice of either for on site consumption, I believe the majority will side with the FSW. Also on a side note I'm not saying PW doesn't make great stuff, it's just that Hype tends to out weight quality and better options now a days. The current tread puts new and old Brewers in a conundrum. Either spend money on R & D or Advertising. The consumer is digging their own graves by giving into Hype or the collectibility of a beer. The problem is even more apparent in beer forums. The first question people use to ask is how is the beer taste, now its all about bottle count and lines.

Fair, and totally valid points, but having had a few bottles of Velvet Merkin over the past few months, I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't want any more. I think it is the weakest of FSW barrel aged lineup, so I personally would go with the beer I haven't had yet (Final Act) than another bottle of something that I have had.

Parabola on the other hand? That I would take over any Pipeworks for sure - Merkin just underwhelmed a bit.

While I agree that we as beer consumers are doing ourselves a disservice when we overhype beers (to your point, @Jimbobebop ), I don't think it's really worth it to argue about who makes better ones. There are plenty of world class beers that leave me cold; it's all relative, obviously. The other thing to keep in mind is that PW is a Chicago brewery, and Chicagoans, aside from being huge beer nerds, are big homers. So even if PW BA beers aren't worth the hype (and I'm honestly not trying to argue either side), we like to support our breweries in a major way (just check out the Big Hugs release yesterday!).

They hype train for beer releases in Chicago in general is out of control, regardless of whether PW deserves the accolades they're getting.

Agreed. Velvet Merkin is the most disappointing BA beer I've ever had. It's not even the best oatmeal stout I've had, barrel aged or not

May have missed this while away on vacation but the Act III label is up, as well as a new Porter:

Any reason in particular breweries choose to add "natural flavors" on the label art? I always find it odd and not a favorable phrase
