If you hang out at all in the "News" forum, you'll see that AB-Inbev does not only buy large craft brewers. They've bought a few relatively small guys, too. (e.g. 10 Barrel Brewing, Golden Road Brewing).

I agree with you to an extent. AB-Inbev certainly isn't restricted to buying the largest one or two breweries. That said 10 Barrel had an output of 40,000 barrels annually last year and Golden Road has been working on expanding to a 60,000/year output. They are not mammoth breweries by any means, but they are larger than average. Both 10 Barrel and Golden Road would easily be within the top 10 MN breweries by volume if you compared them to our state.

In Minneapolis: Caps Grille --I've never heard of it -- have you?-- is adding a taproom and/or microbrewery.

I used to go to Caps for breakfast years ago. It's in a part of Mpls that no one really has any reason to go to unless they live there.

While I can't really argue with what you're saying, I'd say that Cap's is a close restaurant spot for regular riders of the Blue line and some visitors to Minnehaha Falls/Minnehaha Park (in addition to neighborhood residents).

I've passed by Cap's often enough over the years but never visited. In reading the article I see why that's likely:
When I go out, the places I visit are bars with food, or at least restaurants with a beer and wine license.

Likewise, I've never heard anyone rave about their barbecue, which -- considering the fact that Q fans cannot shut up about that messy cuisine (my best friend LOVES barbecue) -- really surprises me.

Still, it's a very ambitious plan -- down to solar panels on the roof! Could Northbound was a direct inspiration?

This is my (easy) guess, also.

Third Street also lost the heart and soul of their original initiative -John Lenore- earlier this year. So I would not be surprised to learn that his sons had decided to sell and pursue new ventures.

P.S. Of those mention so far, the only brewery which would surprise me to see being sold is August Schell.

In "Not Beer" News - Urban Forage Winery is fully licensed and (finally) producing product. They just let supporters know that they plan to open for bottle sales on 12/30 or 12/31. They're planning to have a dry cider and a sweet cider.

The message felt like it's a maybe. They're kind of rushing to be able to have product to sell for New Years. Regardless, they will be open soon for retail only.

Popped into 56 Brewing today. It is hard to find and I did not realize it was off-sale only, but it was a nice little stop. They opened in May and are already doing nice things. They had probably 7 beers on tap, only 1 was not good. The others were good to excellent and were very clean. With such new operations, I really look for clean flavors and nothing was off here. Their IPA was tasty enough to walk out with a growler full. They fill any container, including stainless.

How do they have taps if they are off-sale? Did you mean on-sale as in they do not sell growlers of 750ml? I'm not being a dick here. I just want to know what you meant.

They do not have a taproom - just a tasting room and they do sell/fill growlers. If I remember correctly, it's Northgate's old space.

Oh yeah, that was terribly worded. My bad. I've had a few since getting home (including that growler!). By on tap, I meant what they would give you for samples, which you could subsequently fill in 750ml or 64oz growlers. No dick-ish-ness inferred.

    • Officially licensed to brew beer.
    • Inspections begin next week.
    • Beer will begin flowing from their taps sometime in the New Year.

Maybe they're working on a local yeast farm! :grimacing:

The more the merrier but not all will survive . Anyone know where in St. Paul these people are setting up ?

Also anyone know anything about Wild Mind Artisan Ales - Minneapolis
    https://www.facebook.com/wildmindales/

I hear Pryes Brewing also have some news coming out in 2016 ...Hope they also land in St.Paul as Minneapolis seems a little crowded now.
