The Hop Savant series is fermented with brettanomyces. No wood involved.

Not technically a Colorado IPA, but since it's brewed at Crazy Mountain, I'll throw in a shout out to Omnipollo's Abrahadabra. Super tasty, brewed with vanilla and strawberries. Anyone who is a fan of their Smoothie IPAs or other weird crap they do should check it out.

Mixed fermentation or pure brett? I wasn't getting too much funk, but maybe the hops kind of covered it up. It felt like maybe there was a slight sourness, but again hard to say. Still very nice brew, and I was shocked that I liked Centennial that much, it's not one of the hot tickets right now.

Although I love the Hop Savant series I have to disagree with your comparison to the east coast "hazy juicy IPAs". I find that the addition of Brett in these beers sets them apart from most if not all other IPA sub-styles. Bret IPA's in my opinion are an entirely different style all to their own and I don't find them to be hazy/juicy as much as I find them to be lighter in nature and more of an IPA/saison hybrid.

    BUT I do love them!

I like most of the Hop Savant series better than some of CS's more esoteric offerings (with the exception of the New Zealand Pacifica version, which was merely OK). I haven't had the Centennial yet, but the others are really well balanced, just funky enough, slightly juicy, and damn good.

    Galaxy > Citra > Amarillo > Centennial > Falconer's Flight > NZ Pacifica

Galaxy and Citra were close... Then Amarillo... but the remaining three were far behind in my book.

I liked Amarillo too, but I agree that NZ Pacifica was a step down from Galaxy and Citra. Haven't had Falconer's Flight.

I just edited it, thanks!! Forgot about Amarillo. I like all of the hops, but some just weren't robost enough to truly lift above the Brett. Good, but mild hops.

I heard this was modeled after WWBG which was brett only. Straight brett also gives less funk and more of an estery profile than mixed, so that would be my guess.

THIS. Brett is not going to make it 'sour/funkier' as you mention in this beer @Dan_K, but will serve to make it taste dryer/crisper.

Went to Cerebral tonight. I'll give them props. They've got the hazy IPA thing down pretty well with Rare Trait. One of the better IPAs I've had in Denver. Muscle Memory was also a very solid sessionable APA. Tandem Jetpack, their DIPA and Dark Galaxie, their Oatmeal Stout are OK, but nothing I'd re-visit.

Grabbed a crowler of Tandem Jetpack and Rare Trait a couple days ago. Drinking the Jetpack now. It's a decent IIPA. To me it's a bit sweet for a regular buy though. Really did like Rare Trait when I was there.

Cannonball Creek has Idaho 7 single hop on and it is pretty fantastic. And no it isnt PA 4 fantastic but its a really bright beer with a dry finish(what I want out of an ipa).

Looks like Superfan 4.0 just landed. They added Equinox back in.

    Has anyone had it yet?

They'd have to be working fast, because it just hit liquor stores today.

Regarding Equinox, that was in 3.0 as well. Here's the breakdown of hop varieties (hops listed in order of total quantity, largest to smallest):
    1.0: Simcoe, Amarillo, Citra
2.0: Simcoe, Amarillo, Equinox (subbed out Citra because we thought it would be hard on our contract)
3.0: Simcoe, Amarillo, Equinox, Citra (added more Citra in because we signed a bigger contract)
    4.0: Simcoe, Amarillo, Equinox, Citra

Last note on the hopping: versions 1.0 to 3.0 had the same total hop load of 2.9 lbs/BBL. 4.0 has about 3.15 lbs/BBL. For 4.0 the ratios of each hop are the same as 3.0, the quantities are upped slightly in the dry hop.

Just picked up 3.0 last night and love it. Is 4.0 the final iteration or will there be an unlimited number of numbers?
