@Ilovelampandbeer There is no greater way to describe double negative than Tit City. So on point.

the beermenus app doesn't work as well as the website, I can't search by brewer on my phone.

Yea that's a definite weakness of the app. You can still search for specific beers though, and since Grimm generally only has a few new beers out at any given time it's easy enough to just search those.

I shared one with my family on Christmas. Like Batch 3 of the regular, the Batch 2 of the BA version has a lot of dark fruit flavor to it. I may have to trade to get more.

I had it about a month ago and it was drinking great. Picked up surprisingly great barrel flavors considering it was only aged in the barrels for a few months. Tried to grab a glass of it last night at Cooper's Chelsea but it kicked right before I got there.

If anyone is near Boston Fort Point Market next to Trillium had about 5 bottles of BA double Negative. As of last Saturday.

    thanks!

if you have the hoppy ones, drink them... they do age amazingly well for a hop-forward beer but over time they definitely lose some of what makes them interesting and different from other wild ale producers.

We're of the opinion that if you're using first-use bourbon barrels the best of the barrel notes are in the beer after 3-4 months and after that the oxidation starts ramping up too much. There's some very good mythbusting on this issue in this article from The New Brewer: http://averybrewing.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/New-Brewer-July-August-2015.pdf -- read the part entitled "time is not your friend."

The only real reason for longer timelines is to mellow out the ethanol (alcohol burn) on *very* strong beers such as the bourbon county beers which clock in around 14% ABV.

This actually makes a lot of sense. Barrel character was definitely as good, if not better than, BCBS '15 which I drank a few days later. It's a fantastic beer. How do you think it'll age? I still have one bottle at home and I'm trying to decide the best time to crack that one open.

@berto714 It will age fantastically, and you should drink it at a time when you think the oxidation-related flavor compounds will be perfect for your own palette. It's definitely ready to drink now but those flavors are low -- it will lose bitterness and gain more leafpile/umami over the years.

Total guess but they can hardly cover all of NY without beers selling out within hours...maybe when they get their own space!

From what I understand they give a few cases of each of their bombers to Shelton (I think?) to distribute as they please, which is how it ends up in those states

We won't see it in NJ since Shelton Brothers doesn't distribute there

Out of those the only ones we really recommend aging are BA Shape and DN '14. The others are hop driven beers meant to be consumed relatively fresh... although it's kind of cool to drink these beers with some months on them just to explore how having some tartness in the beer preserves hop character surprisingly well!
