OK, I have to chime into this humor. I love what the Bruery is doing. Yes, they miss on some and hit on some. Every brewery does. Case in point, 3 Floyds. At least with this program, you don't have to live in Munster, IN to score some amazing beers.

Here is why I think that the new HS is worth it.

Membership includes the following bottles, exclusive to Hoarders (many of these beers are not yet named, our apologies):
-- 2 bottles Portola Coffee / Strong Ale Blend (1st Quarter release)
-- 2 bottles Peach Sour Blend (2nd Quarter release)
-- 2 bottles Fess Parker Riesling / Sour Collaborative Blend (3rd Quarter release)
-- 2 bottles Fess Parker / Saarloos & Sons Late Harvest Syrah / Black Tuesday Collaborative Blend (4th Quarter release)
-- 2 bottles Bois (5th anniversary) aged in new French oak barrels (4th Quarter release)

Those bottles, coupled with the extra 5% discount, make this a no brainer. If we take the assumed "average spend" of the larger RS members at $2,000+ that the OP stated, the 5% off amounts to $100. So, some simple math:

    $300 original RS Membership + $100 savings + 10 rare bottles included (@ approx $30/bottle) = $700

Really, this membership is whether or not you want to pre-purchase the 5 aforementioned bottles at $30/bottle. If you don't, no biggie. If you do, great for you. Everything else is not that complicated. And it sure beats a flight to Chicago, a 2 hour drive south to Munster, and the hope and prayers that it will take to score a winning "lottery ticket". Save me. Bring on the Capitalism.

Again, not my problem that you are a little slow and need everything to be explained. What will happen next is that the next brewery sees this as a workable idea and decides to raise the ante. It never stops and all it really does is take average beer and increase the price point of it under the guise that it is rare and desirable. Truth be told, I can afford it if I want it, that is not the issue.

I did not get in, oh well. If my login had worked I may have joined, but it did not so life goes on.

So says the person who thinks that a brewery is better served by brewing more expensive beers and reducing yield on less time consuming beer. You obviously have no clue on that one Einstein. Call an owner of a brewery and offer up that one as your suggestion. Let me know when he stops laughing. Sorry, but I guess the no child left behind program wasn't that successful after all.

There is clearly a market for what the Bruery is selling and I think it's good that they are going this route. The people that buy into this new program will be happy with the beers they receive and that in and of itself is reason enough.

Personally, after 20+ years of craft beer drinking and 2+ years falling down the beer geek Internets wormhole I think I've seen enough and I'll be taking a pass on my "invitation" (i.e., advertisement to join). Plenty of damn fine beer waiting for me a short drive from my house at a fraction of the cost.

Exactly Einstein. You think it stays in business because of Black Tuesday. Same with Goose and Rare. Onto ignore you go, you are totally clueless on how this thing works. Nice chatting with you.

Fair enough, but once you've released enough downright terrible beers, it becomes less funny. I can not believe that they thought Mother Funker was decent enough to be released at its price point. Caveat emptor, I guess, as I bought it even though I knew it would probably be bad.

Wondering about this. Since the Message is about the Hoarder's Society, and it says Society exclusive after most of these, will they be only for the Hoarder's, and not the Reserve? And I did get an invite. I think it is due to the No Avatar deal.

I'm probably going to try to be an RS member for the first time this year, thanks to the addition of in-state shipping. Anyone know when memberships will open for sale?

No, November. From the RS website:

Beginning at 10am on November 14th, we will be opening up the Reserve Society to new members and we will be selling memberships through December 31st, or when they sell out.

You are right. I checked my order and it was November 14th of last year. After they sold out, they re-opened more memberships around the end of the year.

This is damn entertaining. Patrick Rue is going to be laughing his ass all the way to the bank, along with Ray Daniels and his ridiculous program. Much respect to those guys for turning a nice profit in this industry.

Info says "*Society Member Exclusive = Hoarders & Reserve Societies" so sounds like those are for both, with just the five listed at the top being HS-only.
