Now that great notion is on the scene, there's going to be a nw vs ne style difference...

Block 15's Intergalactic Hopshop is similar, too. But we got 95% of all of it up in Seattle.

Block 15 Intergalactic is the best IPA I've had that was brewed on the west coast. I wish they would hault everything, including sticky hands, and make Intergalactic their flagship. It merges everything I love from the NE and PNW style IPAs. Intergalactic is bitter throughout the entire front/middle/back pallet while still being so juicy and tropical with the trademark NE creamy mouthfeel. This is the hybrid west/east haze-juice I've been wanting.

I am a full believer in the "juice" movement. I've been baffled that the west has been so slow to catch on. The cat is clearly out of the bag with local breweries focusing on this style.

Bummed I didn't get any. Hopefully Block 15 recognizes the hype is real on this one, sounds absolutely killer.

Block 15 has said they're probably going to make it again this summer for Chuck's.

I've got one can left. I had Night Shift's Morph (1/21/16 batch) last night and they're really similar (both hazy Galaxy forward IPAs), but I think I like Intergalactic Hopshop better.

In the Portland Metro Area, I would say Ex Novo Eliot IPA is one my favorites. Breakside IPA is also delicious!

I have had two bottles of Wanderlust lately (Bend), and I must say they were underwhelming. A fair hop kick, but not much flavor. Hardly sounds like the beer you are describing above. I didn't see any dates on the bottles, but I have to assume they were very old.

That's always a concern I have as well. I try to always buy it at places I know are going to go through it quickly (the local Albertson's had it on sale for $3.77 a bottle, and the stuff was flying off the shelf).

Maybe try to find it on tap next time? I've see it on tap at Growler Guys on occasion..

I've looked and looked for a brew date on the bottles I've bought (no luck), as at least down here in Eugene, there are some places where bottles sit on the shelf for a long, long time (like my local MofC on Willakenzie). Breakside must see pretty good distribution of it, as pretty much every store in town carries Wanderlust.

Yeah, I really wish Breakside would start bottle dating already - I very rarely buy their packaged IPAs which is too bad since they're among my favorites.

I really enjoy Ex Novo Eliot, I don't think it gets enough love. Also, Block 15 Sticky Hands.

They slap that date on the box. What a travesty for such a great brewery.

I love this thread having been revived. I always hate hearing about beers being "overly hopped" because they tried one IPA like 5-10 years ago and declared the whole style pointless. Apart from it being bad to judge an entire style off one beer, IPAs and in particular NW IPAs have changed immensely during that time period. Oregon has done such a great job of breaking away from the Green Flash/Bear Republican California "West Coast IPA" and moved into an incredible variety that fully embraces the region's bounty.

I moved here in the beginning of 2008 and it was during that first year or two that Ninkasi was in the middle of taking over the "resident IPA" spot in all of Portland. Then as we saw in this thread, RPM came along and was suddenly in every bar. Now things have opened up enough that there are several contenders to the throne - RPM is still around, and Barley Brown and Breakside have certainly earned their fair share, along with plenty of other contenders.

    Also Martin Cizmar sucks.

Just had a week old bottle of Workhorse and good God was it good. I feel like a fool for forgetting about it. Could be tops in Portland. On that note for Laurelwood Eazy Duz It and Megafauna are top notch doubles.

Agreed on the Eazy Duz It, and I have to say I'm happy (and surprised) that this wasn't a "one off" DIPA from them. In fact, it's currently pouring at Growler Nation here in Eugene. It's been on for a while (often a problem at GN), and so I'm not sure it's at its very best, but even so, I thought it still delicious (got a pint last night in fact).

Pretty cool to see this thread revived after three and a half years. For Portland brewed IPA's, Workhorse had always been my go to but then sometime last year I had a Breakside IPA that totally blew me away. Seems like Breakside has really dialed their shit in. Now, after having Merry Dankster, I'd have to say that is my favorite Portland IPA.

For Oregon brewed, available in PDX, RPM has been my traditional favorite... until last night when I had a pint of RPM and a can of fresh Sticky Hands. The Sticky Hands was sooo good, seems like Block 15 is really dialing their shit in too.

Overall I feel like I've seen a huge increase in quality of IPA's around here over the past three years!

Best Portland IPA? Interesting question. I think it's hard to find a consensus on this whereas best in Oregon is a little easier to pin down. I think a lot of people would say Breakside, but I find their standard IPA to be too bitter/dry and I often get too much alcohol on the finish. Honestly, I thought Widmer X-114 was outstanding, unfortunately it was only temporary. Recently I've really enjoyed Eliot. Workhorse is also very good. I'm not sure if there is a truly great IPA coming out of Portland though which seems weird. Def a good discussion to have.
