so i went to GESSMD today and observed a young man donning a six pack of hopslam under his arm ("hopslam guy" hereinafter). after thorough investigation of all beer areas, i concluded there was no hopslam to be found. i inquired with hopslam guy, who was accompanied by his girlfriend ("hopslam guy's gf" hereinafter), as to where he found the hopslam...

"oh.. it's the last one" he purported

"oh wow..." i replied with clear disappointment in my tone and expression. "well, enjoy!"

he glanced at his gf and turned back to me to say

"well we aren't sure if we are gonna buy it or not, so maybe you can have it." he offered with a kind face

"alright sweet, man! well listen, if you decide not to buy it, i'll be standing here" i replied, as i awkwardly stood where i was standing and continued to stand with an empty shopping cart.

the couple exited my peripherals in the direction of the cash register (if you're facing the cooler). i casually lingered around the 6-pack mix-n-match area as i feigned interest in the familiar cooler turds at which i dismissively glare during each trip to GESSMD. after a few minutes of reading techcrunch which felt like eternity, a woman fitting the profile of hopslam guy's gf enters my left peripheral. she approaches, and my heart skips a beat...

"here you go" arms outstretched, cradling a six pack of hopslam. "happy valentine's day, dude."

"oh wow, thank you so much!" i stammered. "i really appreciate it!"

tl;dr drinking hopslam now and it sucks ass. reminds me of 2-yr old hop devil from D's beer cave.

i told my boy alex at the register about what happened. apparently they also had mini-kegs of hopslam, and the couple ended up purchasing one of those. so, good on them!

also, i politely require that you 'like' my post before quoting so i am granted the appropriate BA points. thanks!

Agree on generally weak Asian scene. But do like Trams; they have Pho. It's Bloomfield, but if you're willing to venture to the Strip, it's not that much farther. The don't have serve beer there, and maybe that's a good thing, because 33 Export tastes like shit.

Hey peanut gallery, I'm hoping to elicit some help here. What are some local bars that devote a decent amount of taps to local (western PA) breweries? Already got The Independent, Piper's, Butterjoint, Pig Iron, & Proper. Any others you can think of? How about Smallman Galley or Whole Phoods?

Carson Street Deli seems to focus on local and western PA beers almost exclusively

I checked Dad's, they had maybe 7. Looking for more - thinking a minimum of 10 taps or 50%.
Good call, didn't think of them.

Haven't been but pretty sure I saw a picture of the Smallman galley beer menu on Twitter and it was "localish". Also haven't been to in a while but doesn't bocktown keep most of their taps local?

Elwoods Pub has 14 taps ...usually all PA beers with most being local.

I don't understand. You mean they don't have a website? How about a FB page? Can I look them up on Yelp?
