I wonder if Sosus will be the next juicy beer to come out... I know around this time last year they sent bottles out.

EDIT: Well I mean... we did just get some fresh Pompeii. Heh. Nevermind.

I'm guessing it will be released the week of March 8th (or sooner), as they are taking Sosus to Hunahpu day on March 12th.

My local place has plenty of Zeelander from Oct left. I'm not going to spend $9.99 for a bottle of it though.

Yeah I don't care what kind of tastes you are into, I will never buy a Nelson IPA that is 5+ months old. OK, fine maybe if you would've said $3.99 each

    Really? You'd pay ~$12 a 4-pack?

This seems to be the theme with most of TG's distributed lineup these days

I am a few miles from Grinnell which is a college town 50 miles east of Des Moines. There is a small grocery store that has a pretty decent beer selection that usually gets a lot of Toppling Goliath like every few months. So they sit on stock. They also had the first release of Surly items for like 6 months after they debuted in Iowa because they got a shit ton of it and didn't sell it that fast. I'm just not sure a town of 10,000 can buy that much craft beer while it's fresh. I do my part but I am only one man :grinning:

Maybe you bought all of your closest stores allotment. There are cases of months old, Florida brewed Rover Truck and Golden Nugget all over town.

I've been pretty impressed with the FL GN. It's a bummer that the distro was messed up on that. Was at a Hy Vee, and the guy working there saw me check the dates, and audibly sighed. That stuff's going to sit for awhile. :slight_frown:

I see Nugget all over the place in DSM. It's all really old, and kept warm. But even the Fareway's have that. And some Sue, which is nice.

It seems to me that TG messed up their roll-out from the FL contract brewing. They was NO marketing in any of the outlets I purchase from... I finally saw the first "We have Toppling Goliath" window sign last week (or maybe the week before). Second, they apparently expected people to flock to Dorothy, Rover, and Nugget in broad distribution just like they did in the tap room, etc. Now, they have an issue... all this old product jamming up the distribution channels and leaving either Johnson Brothers or the retail outlets holding the bag and (in my imagination) warehouses filling up with the fresh beer off the line.

Exactly. Hence my price of $3.99 for old beer lol

And MNAle, you are right about the marketing fail. One day *POOF!* there it was on the shelves. Had no idea it was even coming.

Very interesting. I truly think the only reason Heady Topper is what it is, is due to the scarce availability. Same with Pliny and even the McRib. All 3 are delicious, but people crave what they can't have and it instantly seems that much more valuable of a commodity. The TG hype train would be insane.

On the flip side, this could be the start of an epic climb for TG into becoming bigger/better than Surly, Founders, Bells, who knows. Obviously, it all depends on what they want to do. But, they could end up being THE place to go in the MidWest (I know they already are for some of us, but you get the idea.)

If you look at the articles and quotes over the years, I think it's pretty clear that they want to be on the level of the aforementioned breweries, if not beyond.
