Finally tasted one last night and I agree with that. Pretty damn good, but not quite KBS levels (which isnt a bad thing since I love KBS)

Really pissed about the hype for this beer. I've been asking at my local beverage store for about a month and each time they looked at me like I was crazy for worrying about getting a Weyerbacher stout. So they finally get it in yesterday, I go to buy it and it's behind the counter, a 2 per person limit with a $5.50 price tag per bottle.

Its a great beer, but I think a lot of people convinced themselves its as good as KBS because they liked the idea that something could be as good and more readily available.

I know people have different tastes, and I love SMS, but I don't see how people can actually say its as good or better than KBS.

He is just trolling. There are kegs in NY, NJ and PA at various bars.

i meant for personal use. yes they went out to distro. last year you could go release day and get a keg for $150 and 2 cases per person it you wanted.

I can't tell if the above is happening or just that the hype train hasn't reached critical mass yet. I spent two weeks monitoring for this with most stores either putting in bottle limits or having big markups (if they got it at all). However, yesterday my local spot got their shipment and I was able to snag two 4-packs no problem. If this was KBS or some of the other well-known whales it you would be hard pressed to find any store where cases are just sitting out.

KBS is coming out relatively soon and we'll all be able to do side-by-side comparisons

    I'd say miscommunication/misunderstanding for sure.

I payed $13.99 for a 4 pack at Bottle King in Hillsborough. They had a one 4 pack per person limit.

Which is to say same as last year at this particular location.

To update: after inquiring via social media, Bottle King management addressed the misunderstanding, apologized for the confusion, and offered to hold a 4-pack for me at Middletown. No gouging or foul play, and an effort to make right -- one that I really do appreciate.

I got lucky and instead of paying crazy prices for a 4 pack or a single bottle I just picked up a keg.

Picked up a 4-pack for $14.99 last night at Weis in Lansdale. Believe it was their last though.

I used to live right off Oak Tree and 27, but went there maybe twice, I used to go to the Buy Rite up the road. Now I work in Edison, which is why I went back. They actually moved into the old Pathmark down the street. They definitely didn't have much of a beer section, just had a bunch of bottles they probably misplaced for 10 years.

As for the SMS/KBS comparisons, I prefer fresh SMS to fresh KBS. KBS was infinitely more hyped than SMS when I first tried them both last year, so it wasn't the hype. I haven't had either one aged yet. I got one bottle of SMS last year, without big expectations. I've never been all that impressed with Weyerbacher, and didn't even try to find it. I picked up a KBS and off-hand asked how fast the SMS sold , and they asked if I wanted one. I found the SMS much more balanced. I only drank one KBS, and still have two from last year, which I need to get around to. My expectation is the KBS improving with age much more than SMS will. While BCBS is unquestionably a better beer than SMS, I think fresh SMS is more drinkable than fresh BCBS. I feel the same way with BBB; more drinkable fresh, but I don't see aged BBB being on the same level as aged BCBS.

*Confession: I didn't love KBS the way most people seem to. It's a top notch, world class beer for sure, it just wasn't my perfect beer. Same with Breakfast Stout. I love the style, and completely recognize it's a great beer, it just isn't my favorite. Every year I buy it thinking there is something wrong me. I like it, but there are other similar beers I prefer, which is why I don't love KBS the way others do.

Found sms at the buy rite on Mantoloking rd and I think it's wine world on brick Blvd. One bottle limit at $4.50 each. Have to ask them for it.

Buy rite on Oak tree used to be amazing for a ton of great beer. That was almost ten years ago sadly. I went there all the time when I lived in Woodbridge. I went a few years ago when I was in the area and it was a shell of what it had been.

Snagged two 4 packs today. Pretty happy about that. Still hoping to score some at some smaller local places in my area which seem to get stuff and they fly under the radar. Have two 4 packs left from last year as well so I can't complain at all.

As far as the KBS comparison, I think the hype that I read regarding KBS prior to trying it made me think it was going to be this insanely euphoric elixir. When I finally had to beg, borrow, and steal to get it I was left somewhat disappointed after what I had to go through to get it. Nearly didn't get it as it was on tap and the manager tried to snub our table but our server fought for us to get it since we had waited an hour for it. It's good no doubt but and well done but I was not blown away.

I was, however, blown away by SMS when I first tried it last year. I thought it was better than KBS. They are both very good and honestly, I'm happy to have both in my inventory right now. SMS edges it out slightly but to each their own. That's the beauty of beer and this "hobby". You like what you like and if it makes you happy, drink it. Who really cares what anyone else thinks about it.

I got 2 4packs + 2 bottles. I was also blown away by the beer last year. This year, I've had two so far. Its good but it doesn't blow me away, I almost get no bourbon at all this year. I'll give it another try next weekend

Oh nice, I lived on North Laurel Ave., right off Magnolia between Oak Tree Road and the big black and white office building along 27 by Metropark, from 1987 to 2009. Any chance we know each other?
