Now, if only I had a bottle of Assassin or 2010 Rare, I could trade for a bottle of Cthulhu. :grimacing:

I thought yall were joking with the FT ISO. People are absolutely ridiculous, buying it to try and trade for something thats actually rare, and then trying to sell that bottle because you dont even like beer.

follow the FB trade and resale pages...a guy claimed to have a a case and was asking for $400 and discounts for multiples...yet people who want to drink it got none.

It's certainly rare, although it's been bottled twice now, and has been on tap a bunch of times in the last couple years. Not trying to take anything away from it, since it's one of my favorite beers; had I had time yesterday, I'd have loved to swing by the brewpub and either grab a bottle or a pour (though it sounds like I'd get neither). Either way, I don't think it's "crazy rare" which is probably more along the lines of what @Wowzors is referencing.

How many bottles were originally produced and were those brewery only as well? This "new" run may stand on its own though being bottled this year and in "different" bottles. To me it just seems as rare as lot of other stuff people were looking to trade for. Not arguing any point, just looking at numbers and demand and seems to be in line, saw in the completed trades there is a TG stout for Cthulhu 1:1 and seemed about right to me

Why is there no reason to complain?

Just because it's a limited bottle of beer doesn't mean Goose is above criticism.

Like I said. I'm not mad I didn't get a bottle. I knew that was a possibly when I showed up.

If they would have said from the start, "we're just gonna hand out tickets to whoever is standing around in this mass of people, or we might not", I would have happily said "thanks for the info", bought a beer and gone home. I didn't appreciate my time being wasted by asking staff members questions, and then not knowing, or giving out incorrect information.

I think the least any business can do, is inform the staff to be knowledgable on how to run service.

If I went to panera, and tried to order a sandwich, and was told to go to 4 different places to order, and then after wandering around, they said "sorry, we have them all to the people standing near the Coke machine, I'd be upset also"

I'm not disagreeing with trade value, since that's mostly in the eye of the beholder, I'm just saying it's not super-whale status, I wouldn't think. I also don't think people should really be considering this a different run from the first one (at least outside of for freshness purposes). But again, I'm not trying to trade or trade for a bottle, so whatever.

If you live close to the brewpub there's been several opportunities to drink it on tap. If not, there's 400 bottles which is very little. How many Prop's get made a year? 5000?

Not arguing with you, I genuinely was curious as to how many bottles were originally released? A agree that this run of bottles is a "separate" bottling and therefore stands on it own and as such 400 bottles is not many, less than the Toppling Goliath Stouts and those are whales by most accounts. That being said, I am still new to the craft "game"...what would constitute a "super whale"(really asking, I have no idea)

My point was more like Cthulu was openly available to all of us in the chicago land area. So i guess seeing someone wanting Cantillon or even TG is a little odd, i consider those TG stouts FAR more rare as i couldnt get them where I live.

I honestly forget how many the first time, but I think it was a similar run. $20 a bottle back then, too! 2013, before the dark times hit! I'm just saying that we're looking at close to 1000 bottles, and a bunch of chances to get it on tap.

In terms of what a "super whale" is, I dunno, since I'm not super well-versed on incredibly limited-run beers. I think things way out of production (like BCBS OG Rare) or a beer like BA Malevolence Caliente, which (I believe) was sub 400 bottles and impossible to get. There are way better examples, I just meant that Cthulhu isn't nearly as rare as some other stuff out there.

Again, though, I'm only responding because it's part of the discussion on this thread; not trying to derail it. The only real issue I take is that it sounds like a lot of deserving people got screwed out of even a taste last night, whereas flippers are trying to abuse the situation.

Hopefully GI will come up with something similarly great in the near future (the stout they had on tap this list past week, Impervious, is great, btw)!

I honestly don't understand why goose even bothers releasing these bottles. Just put the stuff on tap at $7-$8 for 5 or 6 ounces and silently release it. That way you make roughly the same money without all the hassle and also take care of the people that actually visit the brewpub.

Well, that's an easy one. They still sell all the pours to the regulars and then pull 10Gs at a release, not to mention all the extra business they get the day of the release. It's easy money/cash grab. Besides, I'd much rather have a bottle sitting at home that I can drink/share whenever I want to. BTW, I'm a regular and very much appreciate these releases. I've probably become more of a regular since they increased the number of releases.

I wonder if they stopped the lining up thing because the other businesses were complaining or because they figured out how to take care of the ones that actually spend money there?
