I am not a ticker or seek out the newest release so I rarely buy bombers. However, as stated above sometimes the only option is a bomber, so I still buy them. Most recently I bought the new Karl Strauss IPA at the cost of $10 a sixer and the bomber was $5.50. Obviously, the sixer was the best value as the bomber was almost twice the cost per ounce. At the end of the day bombers give people options so as I might personally avoid them they fit with someone's purchasing criteria. It's always better to have more options than less.

Are you sure? Most SN bombers are $4.50, the low end of bomber prices, which equates to $0.20 an ounce. 76 ounces in a six pack which equals $14.50 a sixer. Most six packs of SN are $8-$10, in my area at least.

Probably, some of the best beers come in bigger bottles, at least I think so.

    Cheers!

I remember doubting the person who posted it, and checking at my local about a year and a half ago. Will hafta check again, but I believe the guy was proven right. It might have something to do with 24 oz. size? And it's 72 oz. in a six.

No worries I was just curious. Either way SN is a great value and if there is an exception to the rule it's would be them...cheers.

I love bombers and buy them all the time. But I prefer to buy beer I've never tasted before, and the bomber gives me 2 glasses to beer to try without having to buy a 6-pack. Too many times I've purchased a 6-pack only to find the beer is average and sits in my fridge too long. If I really like it - Hopslam, Gumballhead, Zombie Dust, Tropicalia, Todd The Axeman - then I certainly want 4 or 6 packs (and I may buy a case). 4-packs are also a nice way to buy.

I hate everything about bombers. They're generally so expensive per ounce, there's the pressure to drink it ASAP or it goes flat, I usually don't have any friends with me that like craft beer to split it with, and they're harder to carry around and refrigerate. I wish all beer was exclusively in 12 ounce formats, preferably cans.

I don't like the huge price per ounce difference in some bombers compared to 6 packs but I'll deal with it. My bigger issue is when I can't get the beers I like in bombers in 6 packs. Or the fact that breweries are hardly putting their beers in 12 packs anymore and making me pay much more per ounce for a 6 pack than I would a 12 pack. It's a vicious cycle!

Trillium Galaxy Dry Hopped Fort Point Pale Ale is $8.05 per bomber right now at the brewery. Life hacked.

I generally don't buy bombers unless a beer I really enjoy only comes in that format.

Or maybe I want some more Lemon Pledge without dropping $3.50.

because sometimes I just wanna tick it and a single bomber takes up less space than a six pack.

This article is a bunch of bullshit, spend your money or don't. If your so worried about per unit price then don't drink at all or just buy the cheap macro shit. Why spend life worrying about a few bucks?

Plus...personally I hate the word "hack" when it comes to anything life. Just go live it

And this is the importance of having a bottle shop that sells singles of everything with no markup

One of my favorite local breweries, French Broad Brewery, has a bomber special every Sunday where they are $33/case or $2.75/bottle. You have to buy a case, but can mix them. And since they make several of my favorite brews, it's a win/win. We usually stock up every 3 or 4 weeks, plus have a few pints while there.

Plus we are there every Monday for $2.50 pints. Mondays are like being in Cheers, everyone knows your name, basically the same people every week.

    A great beer, at a price I'm happy to pay without doubt. That said, $8.05/22oz = 36.6 cents/oz = $26.35 per sixpack.

Why is it that an $8 bomber seems like a deal, when a $25 sixpack seems like a ripoff? Consumer psychology is fascinating.

Much to do about nothing the size of the bottle has very little to do with my decision to purchase a beer.
The most important thing for me is the quality of the beer. Sure 750 ML of a beer you don't gel with can be a pain (time & money) put trying as many beers as one can is the fun of the craft beer world.

All depends on availability. If only available in a bomber. "When in Rome"

Life Hack: Olde English 64 is the perfect balance of cost-per-ounce AND not overspending too much in one purchase. Sometimes a quarter barrel is just too much, even if the unit price is better.
