New to Ohio (2016)

You nailed it on the "advantages they have in Cleveland" being non-existent. I even feel like they may receive a pass for some of their "dud" beers because they're very well liked locally. I mean hell, I like them. I'd just rather them improve before going big. Hey, it's not my money, though; I wish them the best in that scene down there!

 

Just want to say that I love Greens Keeper as well! I always try something new when I'm at Land Grant, but my second beer is always Greens Keeper because of how easy a beer it is to drink.

 

Platform in CLE is a great time and fun bar. The beer is pretty average. I had one really great growler of Speed Merchant over a year ago....probably my best experience with them. Lots of hills and valleys in between. Wish them the best though.

Crazy times in the beer world. Tech companies and Silicon Valley got nothing on the current growth occurring in the beer game.

 

yeah i've heard someone say and haven't tried any new cans yet but I'm hopeful the kinks are getting worked out if they already have further expansion plans. They seem like good enough business people to not expand if their current problems aren't being fixed.

 

Esther is probably the best beer I've had from Platform. The rest of the beers I've tried have been very meh. As others have said, them making it in Cleveland is 90% due to them being in Cleveland. I wish them luck in Columbus but I don't think they'll have nearly the same response.

 

Platform makes a lot of solid but unremarkable beers and for some reason these are a lot of the ones they choose to can. Most of their best stuff is draft-only. Give me Black Eagle, Brettr Off Dead, Hubris and Cerealism in cans! I think it could help them stand out more in the marketplace than basic porters and red ipas.

 

What do you guys think about Little Fish down in Athens? I bought a bottle of the BA Saison du Poisson on a whim a while back and really enjoyed it. I've since had a couple others (Pawpaw Rein....!? and the Biere de Garde) that were nice and I just picked up a bottle of The Aecern (Old Ale w/ Brett) that I'm excited to try.

 

I've tried 3 or 4 beers from them, and I liked them all. The BA Poisson Grand has been my favorite so far. I need to make a trip to Athens soon so I can try more of their brews!

 

Aecern was the most memorable beer of the night for me during Hullabaloo this year because it was so unique and good. I am excited to try more from them.

 

Just an FYI, Platform signed a deal with Applebee's to carry a handle / cans at 38 stores in Ohio.

 

Just curious, how does Platform do in Cleveland? I tried one of their IPAs that was solid but with so many good options, I'd think it would be hard for them in an already competitive market.

Yeah, my buddy is a GM. Happened a few weeks ago. He's selling Speed Merchant at his store.

 

I had 'Red Cup' Red IPA out the can from Platform yesterday... I don't know if it was just the mood I was in or what, but it really knocked my socks off... What a great beer from everyday drinking. Pretty reasonably priced as well.

 

Had Frank Stallone there yesterday. It was not as enjoyable as the Norm Macdonald jokes

 

Can anyone confirm when KBS is supposed to hit OH? In general or NW OH specifically?
