I got a keg of Chillwave for a party last year and thought it was great. The bottle I had was not very good though. I'll probably pick up a single bottle and try it on tap around town. I've rarely been disappointed by their beers when they're on tap, but their bottles just aren't nearly the same.

I do think I have also begun to notice a difference with GLBC, but I'm starting to believe its on the bottle to keg difference.
I had Oktoberfest in my kegerator and it was great as always despite some of the pushback on it being "off" this past fall. The regular Blackout I felt was off in bottles vs when I had it on tap in 2014. I personally am leaning more towards having it on draft in the kegerator only.

The date of my profile might say I am new money, that I should dip my toes in and I have to pay my dues, but, well, Chillwave is great. If you disagree I'll fight you. Just kidding. Cheers!

The fact that this site is called BeerADVOCATE and "veterans" of this site use the term new money as a slight is a disgrace. Education, acceptance, and forgiveness should be principle values of this site. I'm glad you like chillwave because I do not. Wanna fight? :grinning:

I really hope not. Love Chillwave. I just got some last night and haven't opened one yet, but this is exactly what I (and many other people) have experienced with them lately. The Oktoberfest, Nosferatu, and Christmas Ale all had a metallic aftertaste to me. 2 of the 3 on tap did not though. I have not noticed it with the year rounds though. Only seasonals.

I drank a chill wave last night. I need to drink another one today to see how it is casue I ate fish tacos and onions so I think my taste was off but I want to say it's different then last year. I think I tasted this metal taste people are talking about but if I did not read about it ahead of time I don't think I would have thought twice about it

Man, Chillwave is so bad, you had to SUFFER through 4 bottles?!?! Must have really been awful if you drank 4 bottles of it in a night! :sunglasses:

I suffered through 2 bottles last night myself... In all honesty, I wasn't quite as impressed with this year's batch as I have been in the past, but it's nowhere near a bad IPA past its prime. I feel like they may have messed with the recipe, possibly dialing back the mosaic (epic failure if they did) and amping up the nugget or something. I have never really been a big fan of their beers, but this beer and Eddy Fitz are excellent offerings. And I do enjoy a nice $10 4-pack of DIPA.. you don't see that much anymore.

Overheard a brewer last weekend trying to say that there wasn't much BA Maple Porter left (partly because he was trying to make some deals with folks ahead of him in line at Hoof), but that he could maybe get one bottle. About that...

I can get a little bit of that metallic aftertaste with the first Chillwave. I don't think it is nearly as noticable as the Oktoberfest and Nosferatu were (bottle only). Otherwise it is tasting very good. FWIW, I thought the Turntable Pils was excellent. Very cool label too.

Wish I could say--it's in the fridge at the moment. The glass is an Old Choco. Sorry for the tease :stuck_out_tongue:

It's really good. Reminds me a lot of Founders Pather Cub. Maple is sweeter and the barrel/bourbon is more subdued, but a great showcase for the maple barrels. Wish it wasn't $18 though.

Effing delicious. Drank one last night, bought three more today. Pretty maple forward, which I like. Not much bourbon, but enough. I was skeptical about how the flavors would play in a 7.5% porter but they nailed the body and carbonation.

I get quite a bit maple... Dare I say almost too much? Its pretty good and even unique and enjoyable. It seems to have a sweet 'vanilla extract' type flavor profile. I wish they made the base stout a bit bigger and perhaps conditioned it on coffee beans. Or perhaps, in the future they can purchase the barrel/cask and let a couple more batches of bourbon sit in there. It needs more definition. Or at the very least a stronger/bigger base to match the sweet maple profile. I heard there were only 28 cases that made it to retail. Not sure I believe that. But that's the beat on the street.

Lots of maple for sure. I split my bottle with my wife, but I drank probably 16 oz. of it, and by the end it was nearing "too much" territory. Not in a bad way, but maple is really sweet, and 16 oz. was enough. I thought it was pretty damn good for what it's supposed to be. They obviously were going for something a little lighter, and I found it to be a nice alternative to the bigger BA stouts.

I picked up a few bottles of the BB Maple Porter as well. 3 of us split a bottle Saturday night. Very good maple flavor, just a hint of bourbon, and pretty great smoothness.
