All of you bitching and complaining buy those "shelf turds" of pirate, AB Noir, Birthday bomb and trade me for them. I have bought a shit ton of beer and prairie is not the one running the price up its the distributors. Here in Florida regular Bomb is $11-13 and I always have a case around the house. I think its one of the best mex style stouts out there, its high ABV and pretty easy to get. I would rather walk in somewhere and buy it than have to trade for a mex cake, abraxas etc. So check the ISO forums I am always down for some prairie bomb variants. And has anyone seem this birthday bomb anyway? Cheers

Are these variants really shelf turds? I thought all those comments were referring to regular Bomb, which is sometimes a turd in NYC, although turd is relative - it never lasts more than a couple of weeks. The variants are gone in the blink of an eye here, I was lucky to get 1 each of Pirate and BA.

Turd is in the eye of the beholder... Variants only sit in places where they're egregiously overpriced. Regular (which goes between 7 and 9 here in Texas) will sit a few weeks, but is regularly cleared out. I wouldn't call that turding, but some will.

Here is some actual information about the Birthday Bomb from Prairie's FB page...

"Birthday Bomb! was conceived to celebrate three wonderful years of experimentation and fun loving flavors like the current incarnation with caramel sauce. Made in house by our brewers with nothing but black gloves and a propane tank."

Now we can get back to bitching about how overpriced this is obviously going to be. :sunglasses:

Rumor has it that Birthday Bomb has been spotted in the wild in the Midwest as of today. Keep your eyes peeled this week.

Minnesota started getting it yesterday along with Prairie in general. It is $9.99/bottle.

After looking at the label from Untappd it appears that it is the same exact beer as Prairie Bomb.

    What gives.

The label is not the same at all on the pictures I saw on untapped. Looks like a typical variant with a separate label

Bomb! variants sit on the shelves in my area at $11.99. You can walk in to any shop and grab whatever you want.

I can vouch for what @deedzie is saying. I have found many Prairie variations sitting in smaller Iowa stores. Problem is they won't ship it out to crazy people like us when attempting to barter  (legalities).

You can tell that two beers are the same just by looking at Untappd images? That's actually really impressive!

Dude, both beers are slated as 13% imperial stouts aged on cocoa nibs, vanilla beans, coffee, and chilies. Both regular bomb and birthday bomb have the same exact descriptions.

My question is: what is the difference? Are they just releasing this on the anniversary of the first batch and giving it a new label for the occasion to sell more product? maybe.

According to the article, this version is brewed with everything that Bomb! is, as well as caramel that was made in house. I do find it interesting that the caramel is not listed in the ingredients on the label...

Their website calls this a caramel bomb, even though its not listed on the ingredients.

It's just a ploy by PAA to get tickers in a tizzy. It's working.
