With all the rum, you'd think the breweries would have rum barrel aged offerings...

I've been all over the islands all the way to Aruba and back, and there isn't much. Set your sites low and you might find some. The Bahamas could be especially bad.

There was one in the Cayman's that was interesting. Some kind of red ale or something. There is a brewery in the Virgin Islands that makes a few drinkable ones, but they are not exceptional. There is Dragon Stout in Jamaica, and you can fortify that with the special herbs there. It's a sweet, strong nasty stout. Other locals beers were all pretty bad lagers. I was happy to buy a couple Sierra Nevada Torpedos in St Croix!

I agree with Strongback Stout. I also would suggest Bush Crack if you can find it, it's my favorite Bahamian beer although that's not saying a lot. Enjoy your vacation.

Take bottles or cans with you?

Had a buddy in Raleigh that went on a cruise 2 weeks ago and took a variety of cans and bottles with him on the boat. Never had an issue getting them on the boat.

Not sure if they get Presidente from the Dominican Republic there, but that beer does the trick when on an island.

Bhetancourt Rhum from Haiti is pretty solid, give that a run.

Before you leave, get a bunch of craft beer in cans, buy a couple 12 packs of soda, empty the soda boxes and fill with craft beer cans except for the two cans you can see through the carrier part of the box. Carefully and conspicuously tape the box back together. Then it's just 12 packs of soda.

Strong back! I went on my honeymoon last October on the same exact cruise. I walked a mile back to the boat with a case of strongback. The comments I got from the cab drivers were hilarious. I got one left

So, how was it? I am headed there for my honeymoon in July and would like to hear some advice on what to see and what to avoid.

I would gladly sacrifice beer for warmth right about now

Bush Crack isn't terrible if really cold. Drink lots of guinness foreign extra stout. Also, the locals love Sky juice, but watch out for a wicked hang-over.

I thought Kalik Gold was pretty good. Other than that, the best I could find was Guiness Foreign Export stout, which isn't half bad at all.

Pirate Republic Brewing in Nassau, the only craft brewery in the Bahamas, definitely worth checking out

Good luck with that one.. LMAO!!

My wife and I head to a beautiful island every year around May... Take head beer world this is what I do...

We usually book vacation a year out so when we got home this year from the Bahamas we started looking for next vacation site. Once found we call the resort and book it (a year out) .... his name was Chris and he was the owner.. LOL.. see where this is going yet? In a couple months I will call him, "Hey Chris this is Chuck we talked to you a few months ago about next years vacation." "Oh yeah he says" but I know (and you know he doesn't remember me) BUT HE WILL!!! "I was just calling to see if everything was still good for next May, because we booked so early I just wanted to make sure nothing crazy happened." "No sir, everything is still good Chuck thanks" he will go back and make some comments about me and the stupid call to his staff or his wife.. LOL... but... now... I'm in his head... In January I will call him again... oh yes I will .. LMAO... and guess what he will remember me this time... "Im the guy who keeps calling to make sure everything is OK because we booked so early." "Oh Yes.. I remember with a laugh"

"Im checking to make sure we are still good for May its only 4 months away now." "Yes Sir, everything is still good.. (laughing)"

here it comes..... this is how we work it....

ME: "By the way, how is the beer selection on the Island?"
Them : "well we have some local made stuff, and you can usually find some regular American beer"
Me: "Oh Yeah, regular American Beer? Like what?"
Them : "Coors light, Miller light" (or whatever this particular island has (usually very expensive though)
Me: "Oh?? !!! any other like craft beer stuff?"
Them : "Like what? What are you looking for?"
Me: "Oh I dont know.. you ever heard of Double Bastard? Or Heady Topper? or .. or .. or... " (looking for all the really cool names to gain interest..)
    Them: "Nope.. any good?"
Me: "Hmmmm!!! very good.. would you like to try some?"
    .. hook line and sinker..

so now.. I get the resort address send him a few beers and then ask if its OK if I mail myself a few of the good beers when we come for our vacation..

I have done this every year for three years now, and it never fails to work.. I send myself about 10-12 beers through the mail, and then take about 6 in my suitcase, so in a week vacation... I have approximately 18 good beers.. dont really Jones for craft beer on vacation anymore..

Cheers all.. good luck on your vacations... LOL

Guiness FES, Strong Back Stout and whatever else is around. Its a beach vacation - sometimes what you would drink back home isn't available. Drink some rum, don't stress about it. And I love me some Jamaican rum - Appletons

See above, you can get good beers on the island, I've just spent seven months there. If you google craft beer in the Bahamas and click on the impissedagain link, you can read all about it. Like I said Pirate Republic Brewing, the first and only craft brewery in Nassau, they have a tap room behind Bay St

Going to the Bahamas in August - I'm already mentally prepared to just drink liquor and enjoy the beaches.

I was just there last week and had wanted to try their local stout, but could only find Sands lager at the Hard Rock Cafe. Wasn't too bad really. Better than the macro alternatives anyway.

Thanks for the heads up. I think I'm just going to dig hard liquor for a week, might do me a bit of good for once.
If I find anything, I'll try it and act pleasantly surprised!
