Hey guys, a few of us have debated in the past weeks re: Immodest being THAT good, some think it's great, some not so much. Apparently, a few think that it could be a "Heady killer" (not sure why, there's room for plenty great beers :stuck_out_tongue:) so I put the two through it last night to see for myself where they stand in relation to each other.

Bad news right from the start as Immodest was almost 4 weeks old and Heady was a few days fresh. Yikes...

However, the bad news for Immodest stopped there. There were two of us who scored it higher in smell, taste and feel. What Heady reaaaaally had going for it though was its drinkability. I understand why they drink cans of this stuff like Coors Light in Vermont, no detectable alcohol, super easy to drink.

However, the strong, malty presence in Immodest provided a stronger and more tropical smell, more balanced taste and better mouthfeel. Bothe we're very different and just having those two, if this was a blind test, I could've easily been convinced that they were a notch apart, i.e. one was a regular IPA, the other a double, or even one a double and the other a triple (would have to have more iterations to properly compare). So is that a bit of a knock on Immodest, feeling "boozier"? It is, however it just balances the whole thing out quite perfectly.

Now, of course, your mileage may, and likely will, vary. I think that in our constant search of hops, Heady provides one of if not the best profile out there, but there was no malt to speak of (at least when comparing these two) so it's hard for me to say it was as well balanced as Immodest.

So there you go, lack of malt for one, a bit boozy for the other, so both are bound to be overtaken. On a hot day chilling outside, I'd reach for the Heady. A cooler spring evening, I'll go for the Immodest. Twist my arm while asking me which one I prefer though...

    Cheers!

I don't know, I've always consider Heady to have the perfect balance - sounds like I would consider Immodest maybe a hair too malty if I tried it. Of course, I would happily make that judgement for myself if I could get my hands on the stuff!

East end of Montreal, but I'm not sure what I have that you'd be interested in. My only real plug is living right next to MaBrasserie...

Could trade a couple of beers for a Mabrasserie Spiegelau IPA glass

That's my complaint with Immodest, only I find it more than just "a hair" too malty. Compared to Heady, it is really sweet.

Agreed. I love immodest, but after drinking heady for a month or so before immodest hit stores the sweetness of the malt hit me hard. I still feel it's the best iipa in Ontario, but it's no match for a half dozen or so iipa's from the us. But it's pretty great to be able to grab a very good iipa off the shelves in your local lcbo!

Anyone who thinks that these two beers are anywhere in the same universe is a moron. By no means am I jumping on the Heady hype train, nor do I consider Heady to be my favourite IPA, but...you've got to be kidding me.
