First off, I nursed this for most of the afternoon. Our girl cat wanted to help by giving her opinion, but I'm guessing she didn't like the strength of the coffee in a brown ale as she turned her nose up at it and walked away .

For me, my thoughts were left mainly unchanged. For some odd reason I do not really enjoy the feel of this beer, and I feel the coffee does play more of a role than it needs to, but I do get some of the base style and would like to taste more of it.

For my new beer for this post, I deceided to also go with a beer that was reviewed here today. In a very loose interpretation of style, this is sorta/kinda/not really a cross of the previous two beers:

Petrus Aged Red - 15% Petrus Aged Pale (a tart beer) and 85% dubbel bruin (brown) with cherries. Proclaims itself to have a sweet and sour balance targeted at fruit beer lovers. I am not necessarily a fruit beer lover, but I do really enjoy Petrus Pale Ale (and as a part of researching this, realized I have only given it a straight 4.25 rating - another oversight to correct at a later time).

The cork on this one wasn't so forthcoming, so instead of fighting with it, I used a corkscrew. Nice pop from that cork, and a pour that didn't yield too much head. What was present is no longer, also. The thin rim of bubbles grows on the side of the glass with a little swirl, and recedes to its thin line fairly quickly. The pic show the color as a reddish brown, sorta rusty in color until enough liquid turns it a deep crimson burgundy.

The nose is heavy on the cherries, no doubt or subtleties here about the additional ingredient. The nose is trying to foretell a dark sweet cherry flavor. Really, it reminds me of the scent I get when I stir a fruit-on-the-bottom black cherry yogurt. It's also fairly dominant and I am having trouble finding other things in the nose - maybe a light cherry soda impression.

The taste also does not leave the cherry in doubt. However, it isn't quite as sweet as I'd expected it to be. Unfortunately, I'm also not really getting any of the sour countering note that the bottle "promised." Carbonation tickle is nice up front, but fades by mid taste as the cherry flavor seems to fade to a blander version of itself, with perhaps a little woodiness coming in.

The girlfriend, who likes fruit beers more than I, was surprised the rating is as low as it is. I can understand it, I think. It's not too too sweet up front, but it also is lacking... well, something beyond the opening cherry sweetness just fading. Complexity is not a keyword for this beer for me.

I can see the dessert thought that @NotAlcoholicJustAHobby mentions. It does seems to me to drink like a cherry soda, even. I actually liked the feel of the beer, and there is not even the slightest hint of its 8.5%.

Good evening NBS, our work is completed and I have the luxury of posting a second time today.
What a treat this To Ol Peardon my French is, it could be dessert by itself.
What a treat. Have a great week everone.
    Cheers

    Peardon My French

    To Øl
    Saison / Farmhouse Ale / 7.50% ABV

    4.04/5 rDev -0.7% | Avg: 4.07
    look: 3.75 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.75

Poured from a 750ml bottle into the modified tulip glass.
A - Copper colored offering with nice clarity, a stubborn carbonation trail feeds cirrus style cap. The thin cap however
leaves ring after ring of lacing as an enticement.
S - Soft tones, gentle ripe pear, light oak toast, warm baguette lathered in honey, alpine cows milk, mature sunflower, blond tobacco, young mulch, absolutely delightful.
T - Lots of honey, aged citrus, and warm leather, Sauternes dessert, hints of caramel and toast, With a warm up there is dandelion, and lots of heather in the taste. This could go on forever! An aperitif or a dessert cordial so hard to to decide.
M - Every bit as viscous as needed and not a bit more. Thick in body and delightfully carbonated, The sweet element of the barrel are matched with the delicate use of pear. The sweetness moves slowly, deliberately to the side and lets a train of malts pass by. This is special. The palate responds in lustful, desire, and longing.
O - What a stunner, just enough body without being overbearing, the slick wonderful feel, matched with an incredibly diverse and deep aromatic. The brewers here could almost boast. I suspect however that is not good style. This offering is worth seeking out

I have to publicly state that I am officially jealous of you. I was just starting to get into Allagash when they pulled the plug on distributing to my state years ago!

We don't get Allagash in New Mexico but fortunately I've never found their beers hard to track down. I'm going to pick up a 4-pack based on your review. I'd seen an ad for this beer and checked reviews and saw they were middling, but your review has me sold.

This is a GABF winner and I remember really enjoying it though it's been nearly two years. I am planning to bring La Cumbre's Malpais stout out with the other assorted Albuquerque/New Mexico beers I'd like to share with you and others; I think you'll like that one.

Late start but better than no start at all. Still have a few @clake beers left, including this Woah Amarillo from Magnify Brewing

Looks all sorys of tasty in it's murky orange yellow glory, sporting a thick white foamy head that finally settled in, leaving plenty of sticky lacing.

Smells fun enough as well. Tart, lemony and a touch musty. Taste cranks it up a notch all over with everything I just mentioned, plus a tiny sweetness. Like a candy sugar sweetness.

Finished very quickly (is that a quality?) With maybe some lingering bitterness in the back of the tongue.

    Very impressive beer!

Hello gang, I'm back for another that I'm sharing with my bro. I picked up a few of these Galactic Double Daisy Cutter bombers at Half Acre yesterday when I picked up my keg. Let's pour this 22 oz. bomber in my Half Acre glass for the occasion.

Pours a transparent deep sparkling gold color leaving a finger of white foam. Smell is dank spicy weed forward with notes of passionfruit, grapefruit and fresh rubber. The taste is passionfruit, grapefruit, dank spicy weed and floral esters. A touch of rubber/fusel alcohol in the finish. The feel is oily, resiny slick with a touch of bitter hop biterness.

Yeah, it's no secret I drink my fair share of Half Acre beer, but I'd like to think I'm objective in my reviews. A new one for me that I missed in the past. The timing of my keg kicking was impeccable with the release on Friday and bottles lasting into Saturday. My score was 4.51 / +5.1%.

Going to tip a couple with the bro, I hope to be back for one more later. Here's the scorecard.....

Ive heard that story- and history says its about 50/50 its true. Whether it is or not the band was never the same IMO after that. And even the members say they weren't the same. Guy was a way underrated guitarist/composer.

Back with today’s first official New Beer of this Sunday.

This is the most “bourbony” tasting beer I’ve ever had that wasn’t also a big booze bomb. There’s an incredible amount of bourbon flavor packed into a 7.5% beer.

The noisy head dropped so fast I couldn’t get a picture of it!

This is a tasty yet frustrating beer, which is probably due to the fact that I’m not that big a fan of brown ales, but I was very impressed by Tyranena’s barrel aging. They are officially on my radar now.
edit: Man, is photobucket spammy today! Sheesh!

Am about to open can number two of a delicious semi local called Void Of Light.

Funny I planned on opening my first try of Founders Sumatra Brown, but the reviews here today convinced me I might not like it as well as another can of this delicious Foreign Export Stout.

    I definitely did post though:slight_smile:

Thanks for the kind words, man! That was a rough couple of days lol. Pretty sure it was self inflicted. You would think after 25 years of foraging I would know my limit of morels.

Then again I guess I rarely know my limit of anything, including our favorite beverage

This one is new to me
The smell is more of a grapefruit and slight grass aroma
It is a cloudy peach color withers thin head and some lacing
Taste is pretty smooth to slighty dry finish
Mild carbonation and mouth feel is kind of thin
Not a bad IPA but to me it tastes like something is missing. I don't think I would buy it again, it wasn't what I like in a IPA
