Twin Cities Bottle Hunt - 2016 Edition

On my way out of town today picked up bday bomb, BA Scotty Karate, Uncle Jacobs and 2015 Abyss at SLP Lunds and Byerlys. Solid pre Memorial Day haul!

I know there are probably a lot more out there, but they all do a pretty good job of posting new stuff that arrives via twitter

 

Pompeii, axe man, g-nug all available in growlers at the nova. The bruery poterie for like $35/bottle too. GI halia for $25 I think.
Spirit seller had tons for CW bbbw.

 

"MGM Saint Paul has no limits of Alexander ($15.99/bottle). Same for CW Cassian Sunset and BBBW ($3.99/bottle). There are also Sumatran and BB Scotty Karate 4-packs. I don't think there were limits on Uncle Jacob's. Basserie Dieu du Ciel bottles are $1 because apparently they are just now getting too old."

If you ever see dieu du ciel for $1...buy them ALL!!! That is a HUGE barleywine that ages amazingly. Had a 2010 this year and it was a smooth malt cornucopia! Loved it!!!!!

 

Most of what they had were session beers, which are pretty much guaranteed to be past their prime at this point. I picked up a single bottle of the scotch ale with maple syrup (9.5%) to see how it is tasting. I might go back for more if it's good.

 

For those of you that haven't had a chance to try cascade yet, or haven't wanted to pull the trigger on a $25+ bottle, the G-Will Liquors in Lino Lakes will be tasting a few of them on Wednesday the 1st from 4:30-6:30.

 

Anyone seen DDH Sue in the twin cities yet or know when we will see it?

 

I will be in Minneapolis in a couple of weeks and was going to search for a couple of recent, but slightly dated, Summit releases - the 30th Anniversary Double IPA and the Unchained Us and Them - both threads. I am staying downtown but have a car. Anybody have any recommendations regarding who might have them on the shelves or on tap?

I saw some 30th in the cooler at Bacchus in Shoreview on Friday.

 

As far as the summit goes, you shouldn't have a problem finding it. I've seen it in numerous liquor stores in the west metro area. I'd just search for stores around where you are at and call. Chances are they'll have it. As for the unchained, maybe someone else can shed some light on that. I haven't noticed them around, but I also haven't been looking for them.

 

It's the 2016 release. I am not sure if it is particularly rare.

 

Anyone seen any Schell's 2016 Cave-aged Barrel-Aged Lager yet? My friend in New Ulm said they went through all 20 cases they recieved over the course of the weekend. Seems to be much more limited than last year and people are buying it up like crazy.

On the Schell's twitter it looked like it was only a New Ulm release because of very limited quantities, though it also looks like next year will be a bigger batch with their tweet on barrels...it might be done and gone already

Total Wine Roseville had both on Saturday. Things might change "in a couple weeks" so I'd recommend checking their website as you get closer to your trip.

 

Heritage tweeted that Bear Republic is coming to Minnesota. It will be nice to have Racer 5 easily accessible.

I asked at Top Ten Andover and they said they'd be getting the summer sampler next week. I'm not sure if the rest of the metro area will see it sooner though.

As for the BA lager, Liquor Mart in New Ulm got 42 cases on Thursday and 4 were left earlier this morning.
