Man I'm doing real good! All of my relaxation time involve beer! Or wine with my wife! Or scotch or bourbon if not the other two! I didn't know that I was so healthy!

    Good health to all!!

In reading the article, the moderate consumption they tout is combined with a generally healthy lifestyle: physical activity, reasonable diet and no binge drinking. This call to general moderation echos the quote from Sophocles recommending a balanced diet of "meat, bread, vegetables and beer." Also, the old Spanish saying, which I find particularly applicable to myself, "one drink is just right, two is too many and three is never enough."

I don't drink for the health benefits, but I'm happy to hear there are some. Now on to the bacon study!

I'd say the medical establishment has expanded its view on this to say for women, one alcoholic beverage of any sort, for men, one or two.

If you can put those beers in a time bank, I'm good for most of this century.

I am on pretty good terms with a guy who was actually one of the pioneers in alcohol-heart disease research.

The way it works is light-moderate alcohol every day is good for cholesterol levels (which is in turn good for heart disease risk). As soon as you start drinking too much daily though the positive effects are reversed, or if you drink an equivalent amount in the course of a couple of days followed by no drinking (think binge drinking on weekend). So yea medical consensus is drinking a little bit every day is actually good for your heart (your liver is another story, though I think most can handle it).

I think the problem is in craft, a lot of us go beyond two beers. And a beer is 12 ounces of .05 % abv, not a 16.9 % bottle of BCBS.

I would be willing to be that's a problem beyond just craft beer

For every study saying something is great for you, another says it's not. Examples are nuts, coffee, alcohol, gluten, etc. Comes down to amounts, frequency, overall health, medications, diet, age, etc. Lots of opinions and variables. Studies use statistics, which are interpreted numerical lies.

I think we are at the point now where enough studies have been done that everything in the world simultaneously causes and prevents cancer and heart disease.

    ahh fuck it.

i can do 50 push ups in 30 seconds! (hit by a car at 30)
    i drank 6 beers a day for 60 years! (lives to 95)

genetics play a large part in health. environment and life choices also play a large part. you could die tomorrow by a random incident no matter your health status.

with that being said, i don't eat lead paint chips or inhale spray paint but i enjoy what i want. i don't think the beers i enjoy now will kill me at 40 so fuck it.

personally, i think of the enormity of the universe and realize that it doesn't matter anyway. enjoy the time you have here before you're worm food.

Like most things in life, moderation is key. I'm pretty sure the guy (we all know or have seen one) who drinks 15 beers a day isn't doing too good by age 60. But you are spot on, don't do shit that's blatantly going to take away from your short time on earth. At the same time, what good is living to be 100 if those years are all miserable.
