Get the Sam Adams Summer Variety Pack. With six different beers to choose from, your friends are bound to find something that they enjoy.

Just had the new "Who You Callin a Wussie?" Pilsner by Bastard Brewing (Stone). If they like drinking the BMC swill, throw one of these on them. It is refreshing to drink such a smooth drinking Pilsner that is everything a BMC beer wishes it was. Cheers!

Oberon is good Brooklyn summer ale may be one of the best options for non craft drinkers, it's just so light and refreshing.

All of the non-craft drinkers that come to my store seem to like Radlers and Shandys

Boulevard Ginger Lemon Radler. Great summer beer, stuff flies off the shelves.

If they don't drink craft I would avoid Hefes altogether (specially the ones brewed in Germany). They are not as easy drinking for a newbie in my experience (most of them find weird the clove, banana flavor). American wheats are much easier to drink. You can't go wrong with SA Summer Ale or Bell's Oberon.

A nice Kölsch or maybe a gose that not too intense.

I love lagers but I am surprised by the lager recommendations since the OP specifically asked for "summer ales".

Anyway, I'll second Yuengling Summer Wheat, which is a more than solid hefeweizen.

My dad drinks Labatts, I sent him a few Jack Abby beers and he loved them. It's probably local and fresh, splits the difference.

There are plenty of good craft pilsners, lagers, and kolsches available in the summer that I'd recommend to people who aren't necessarily familiar with craft beer. Nearly anything by Jacks Abby for starters. Champion Brewing has Shower Beer which is a really refreshing Czech style pils. As a user from PA, one of my favorite local breweries, Stoudts, does a spring Kolsch that I find to be phenomenal.

I saw some folks recommending witbiers as well. Avery does Lilikoi Kepolo which is a very tasty wit with passion fruit and Einstok Arctic Berry also comes to mind.

Most summer ales go for a user-friendly taste profile so there are plenty of session ales and otherwise easy to drink beers.

Creature of habit? My dad (in his 70s) still calls every Shiner beer, shiner bock ______

When one becomes understandable by beer ppl, whether we like it or not, it's become a standard

Never had one before but I'd imagine a Raddler might be a decent option.
