I enjoy 70K quite a bit, definitely more than Snakes in a Barrel. I do wish it had been bottled a couple years ago; it would have stood out more back then. At the end of the day, Prairie is probably making better stouts than anything packaged locally.

I have the same issue with both Prairie and AleSmith. They both start many of their fun beers with a coffee stout. For those of us that don't like coffee, it makes most of their BA and adjunct stouts much less desirable.

I need to have 70K side-by-side with a (non-infected) BCBS. I have really enjoyed 70K every time I've tried it but BCBS is what I've always compared BBA stouts to.

After cracking open one of my last three BCBS, I think it is head and shoulders above 70K IMO. Its the beer that got me into BBA beers, but it just holds up very well. Now, KBS is still my favorite BBA beer, but i think it is very close between the two. Prairie.... oh prairie. It took me 2 years to get ahold of bomb. I had it, loved it, and refuse to go back just because one beer at 9 bucks a bottle. When I can get a sixer or a 4 pack of something I will enjoy a little bit less, I tend to go that route. I still think it is an amazing beer, but that price point hurts my wallet. Other things I have had from them, good but nothing mind blowing. Bomb will always be my favorite. I do love Speedway Stout though. Have a bottle in my cellar that I will polish off in the winter.

I guess the issue I have now with craft is the prices of limited releases. I know they have to make a profit, but jesus, with The Bruery now in KY, that stuff is just insanely priced compared to what I would imagine it would be. I know some people will pay it, but now that I am more in tune with my bank account, I guess the bigger stuff I won't be partaking in that much. This is how it has been though for a while in terms of pricing so I guess I am not approaching a brand new topic, but man, sometimes these prices hurt!

The wife's got a baby shower tomorrow in Shelbyville and I've got about 3 hours to kill, what's the best place in Louisville for lunch and a beer?

And what's the best store to hit up? Was planning on crossing the river to check out Keg Liquors, but am open to suggestions.

    Thanks!

If I were just doing a short lunch, I'd hit up the Post in Germantown. Some of the best pizza in town, and they usually have great taps and bottles. Holy Grale is the best overall option, but I like spending an afternoon there without the time constraints.

You're going to want to go to Keg if you're coming from somewhere else in KY. They've got stuff you just can't get here.

Yeah I second The Post as well. Those single slices for $3.50 are absolutely massive, plus it's not nearly as pretentious as the Grale on a Saturday.

If you want pizza in Louisville, go to Papalino's. The $3.50 slices at the post are worth $3.50, but it isn't great pizza. It is better than Spinelli's.

    Feat in NULU for BBQ.
El Taco Luchador for tacos on Bardstown Rd.
Holy Grale for a burger and fries with a great tap list (It's not cheap)
Monnik if you want an upscale brewpub experience. Best spot in town for food and their own beer on tap imo
Looks like everyone else covered pizza.

As far as Louisville bottle shops, I'd say hit up Louisville Beer Store, Old Towne on Bardstown Rd., or one of the Liquor Barns in the east end (Shelbyville Rd. or the Springhurst location).

When you go to the Keg, make sure to ask if they have FFF stuff in the back. They typically do. BUT, their trucks come early in the week, so maybe not by the weekend. A simple "Hey, do you all have any Dreadnaught/Zombie Dust/Insert-FFF-beer-that-flies-off-the-shelf-here in the back?" is enough for them to typically tell you.

More than enough for 3 hours there. Have fun!

Oh, and you can buy beer to go at Holy Grale. They don't really advertise that but they'll do it.

West Sixth is dropping a Flanders Red this Thursday at the brewery. I hope it's good, and that the price point makes it worth the purchase, since Duchesse can be purchased off shelves here.

Anyone know the price of the West Sixth Flanders Red bottles yet? I am expecting $18 a bottle

In other news, got a six pack of zombie dust in Richmond today. Apollo pizza had 12 bottles of it.

Sadly, that's my expectation. But the LexBeerScene guy who does daily reviews is posting one tonight of this, and I think he's in love.

Have returned from the W6 Flanders Red release. $20 per, limit 4 bottles per person. Kinda steep, not many people I recognized were buying more than 2. 700 bottle count, I'd say around 200 will vanish today, but if people keep buying them on site for consumption, that number may rise.

They do have them for consumption sale here and at the Green Room downtown. The barkeep opened one we ordered, and it gushed mildly but steadily, so he opened another, which gushed more severely, so beware -- maybe keep it refrigerated for 24-48 hours before opening.

The gush did nothing negative to the beer. Good sour on the nose, and a quality flavor, though it may have been slightly over carbed for what I've experienced in the style previously. I did start to notice some heartburn action developing after a 4-5 oz pour, but I'm getting intestinally wimpy in my older age.

I ended up with 4 since their last true sour bottle was very good. Put one in the fridge to try soon, but everyone is saying this one is good too.

Anybody going to the Bats game tonight? I'm at Against the Grain now and then will probably be drinking around town. Hit me up if you're out and about.

W6 Flanders really smoothed out with time in a fridge. Had one at the brewery again today, and it was markedly smoother (for a sour) and not as reflux-inducing. But I don't think it's a cellar candidate, there's a vinegar note that I don't expect to fade with age.

The negative posts about London Balling are bringing me down, damnit... I'm opening my single can in about 5 minutes... Hope my experience is positive...
