Hanging on the patio and watching the sunset. It doesn't appear that it will be overly colorful this evening. Time for another beer and this one gets the nod by default as the Toppling Goliath Zeelander I planned on reviewing was a bit long in the tooth for an IPA. I must educate my relatives about IPA freshness for future beer hauls!

Enough banter and on to a big one that I scored in Michigan a couple of weeks ago. I'm going with The Implication triple IPA from Oddside Ales with a bottle date that appears to read 06/06/16 and a whopping 13% abv. Let's check it out!

Pours a nearly transparent dark gold leaving behind a few of centimeters of disappearing white foam revealing ample lacing. The smell is floral perfume, sweet malt and wet grass. Taste is strong floral notes, resiny pine wet cardboard or wood and a giant dose of sticky malt sweetness in the finish. The feel is oily, sticky and very drinkable considering the high octane. A noticeable alcohol burn as you consume more ounces.

In short, this is one big unbalanced assault on the palate. It could be Devil Dancers evil twin brother! With biting hops, a crazy amount of malt and alcohol, I like it to a fault. I would rank it behind RuinTen and Devil Dancer for the style, but consider it worth trying. I'm definitely going to have to cellar one of these beasts for science! My score is 3.73 / rDev - 7.2% and here's the link to the review.

A nice show of color in the sky after all and a perfect ending to the weekend. Have a great week, let's do it again next Sunday.

And now the moment you've all been waiting for (well, maybe @beertunes, anyway).

A "Deming style" Raspberry sour brewed with brett as a one-off from a tiny brewery/pizzeria/wedding chapel/beer shrine one passes while driving through the tiny berg of Deming, WA, on the way up to Mt. Baker. When beertunes asked what I would like in a reprisal box after I had sent him something, I requested this a while back after seeing it mentioned here on BA, not really expecting any to still be around. Well, it was still around and it's delicious.

The funk pairs really well with the tartness of the raspberries. I think it could be a good brett "training beer."

Probably it for me tonight. Have a great week!

Amazing sunset pic. Your home seems to have been placed perfectly for such photos.

Thanks! I found a beautiful parcel of land on the outskirts of town not far from the National Lakeshore some years ago. A paradise removed from the gritty south side of Chicago where I grew up. Dreams do come true with a lot of hard work.

Actually, the original batch sold out so quickly (only 144 bottle), they decided to do a second batch. You have B2. I love this stuff.

I posted about this beer for NBS a few weeks ago. Loved reading your review in relation to mine. We even both commented on the burping.

I know you normally hate large bottles, and I often agree, but I kinda like that I can keep pouring this out.

Doh! That's the last of it. Incidentally, this is the second NBS in a row where I've been ga-ga over a beer from Whatcom County.

I reviewed that a number of years ago, and it pretty much cured me of any curiosity towards Foster's. And that damned oil can...

What an awesome set up from our girl @utopiajane and there are some fantastic posts that are so well-written - my modest musings will pale in comparison.

@beertunes - what a great opportunity! Congrats and best of luck, although ypu hardly need it!

The rennovations continue in the castle, and as much as I like to think to the contrary, I am constantly reminded these days that I am almost 2X north of thirty... The sweat, dust, and a little blood was flying but everything is ready for the floor dudes in the morning. They won't be happy about moving the fridge, but there are two of them and one of me. I disconnected the water like they asked. Amazing how much a full fridge weighs and that isnt even beer! We are using a renewable eucalyptus flooring, and the counter top template gets made Thursday. It is 75% recycled material, no maintenance, and we stumbled into a deal where it was cheaper than granite. You know...wink, wink, nudge, nudge, buy now and save...but it works out. We put a sheet of plywood over the new island type thing and it is going to be fantastic when it gets done plus we get the storage space we sorely need.

Today's victim...I guess sweatin to the oldies sort of almost applies. Dogfish Head Beer to Drink Music To. It is OK, but I am not lovin it, honestly. It pours a deep amber color, frothy head that did not last to speak of, maybe three sips in and it is gone. It is yeasty in that Belgian yeast sense, and the typical spices are present on the nose. The alcohol peeks out as well, banana, slightly bready. To me it also has a wine component. The taste more or less follows, but a bit more sweetness and lighter malt than expected. There is a fairly strong vanilla taste on the back of the taste which is excessive to my palate, makes it feel much sweeter than it is and quick sticky. It feels a bit heavy, but the sticky business is somewhat annoying and the sweetness is really building. Pretty true to the style overall, but also pretty typical and my overall impression is it is an OK beer. I dont get the convoluted connection to music with this beer, but whatever...it is advertising-speak. Cant say I would recommend this one. I am feeling a maximum of 3.5 coming for this one. True(ish) to style, but it does not feel as well-crafted as other beers in this category.

See ya all in the virtual bah next Sunday, kids.

Although there's a few years between us, I usually know what you are talking about, but I had to look him up.Tomorrow I'm going somewhere to steal wifi access and watch his stuff.

102 years old, and (at least as of 2011) performing bits on the street for change, walking home to his 3.5 million dollar home and donating each day's take to charity. That's pretty cool.

    Saison Dupont

    Dated November 2015

The best saison ive had. Its perfect. Such a lively beer. Strong, big soapy bubbles hit my lips as i drink. Its semi sweet, drying the roof of my mouth but yet so soft with delicate hops. Smell and taste of dried out grass, hay, wheat, spicy rye like smell. Earthy and dirty but taste is clean. Im buying two more next chance i get. Such a word class beer.

Still haven't had a crack at that but I certainly want to, as it's generally considered the direct ancestor of the modern Saison. Maybe I should start bugging the folks at Total Wine.

Oh, back when I was a young one, he was always on the talk shows. Cracked me up, even though I was pretty sure I wasn't really getting the jokes. I was stunned to learn that A: he's still alive, B: is an actual smart dude, and C: does the donation thing you mentioned. Awesome.
