Grimm Artisanal Ales (August 2016)

I actually have a bottle laying around still that I totally forgot about, so I was wondering the same thing. Given that Grimm recommended drinking these sooner rather than later, I'll probably try to crack it open soon.

 

i was there last night, and had a glass. something was off with it. i'm not entirely sure it was the beer, or the line. i love fools gold, one of my favorite places. but i had this from the bottle 6 weeks ago, and it tasted drastically different (better). no way in the 6 weeks, considering how old it is, that it fell off that much. it still smells exactly the same.

 

top hops has a couple cases of super going along with some fantome goodies.

 

Went to Foodtown Harlem looking for Super Going and came away with Double Negative too as a nice bonus. They also had some Fantome stuff.

 

Not gonna lie, wasn't a huge fan of MBDN and I love Double Negative. I'm still sitting on a BA bottle, as soon as it cools off a bit, I'm drinking that.

 

Regular DN is super good. Still sitting on my BA and MB. . I know it's probably not a great idea, but I have been waiting for someone to drink it with!

 

Wish the cans made it out to Chicago. Had 3 bottles of DN from last year and saving my last one as I don't think I will come across it again. Got really lucky a grabbed a bottle of MBDN that I have been waiting to drink but sounds like I should drink it sooner rather than later. Wish more Grimm brew came out to Chicago. DN is one of my favorite, even among all the mid west options in imperial stouts available. I keep looking out for more Grimm brew. Send more please!

 

I found a place that seems to have some older Grimms - namely From the Hip, Bees With a Buzz and ShapeShifter. I don't believe any of these have been brewed recently. Thoughts as to whether these are worth picking up at this point?

 

What are they priced at?

 

$10 for FTH and SS, $14 for Bees.

 

Seems like a pretty low cost of entry, I would definitely give them a go if the style interests you. Shapeshifter and Bees with a Buzz were very tasty when fresh, and could have aged gracefully in 2 yrs. From the Hip is going on 3 yrs now, not sure what that would be like.

I liked it very much. A little light bodied, but flavorful and complex. Hits the typical tropical and citrus notes. Would do well as beach-side drinking. At $5.50 a can (what I paid at an overpriced shop on the UWS) I probably won't return to it, but definitely worth trying.
