I feel like nowadays that sentiment is kind of how it is across the board. You hear people cursing, using foul language, being assholes and generally inappropriate anywhere - grocery stores, on the street, etc. Things have just changed a lot I guess.

I like kids. I like beers. However kids in taprooms is annoying. Breweries and Taprooms are for adults. Not Children.

I also don't have children. So it's an easy decision for me.

I don’t mind kids that are well behaved. My daughter has been to several breweries and beer-centric restaurants. The diaper bag is stocked with books, crayons and paper, and a couple toys. This helps occupy her. Fortunately, I was blessed with the coordination required to color with my daughter while working through a flight. If she gets unruly, my wife or I will take her outside to settle her down, maybe let her explore the fine landscaping of that particular San Diego industrial park for a few minutes, then bring her back in and resume.

It isn’t that hard, but it seems some parents just don’t care: “We are out of the house. Let them run around and scream like banshees. It isn’t our concern right now.” That bothers me.

The problem is that many parents think their child is an angel and have become blind to their child's idiotic and annoying behaviors since they are surrounded by them 24 hours a day. They think their little prince/princess is just behaving wonderfully while they're being annoying little twits.

That being said, I think if I were to draw a bright line on where to take a child, my suggestion would be that anywhere that specifically has more than one activity which would entertain a child is a good place to consider taking a child. Locally, Rhinegeist has a giant space full of ping pong, cornhole sets and other misc. child friendly games. It's like the brewery equivalent of the McDonald's PlayPlace, I'm not mad when some kids are doing kid stuff on the brewery provided playthings. However, if the only thing in the taproom is a stack of board games that aren't aimed at your kids' age ranges, it's probably a good idea to leave them at home when you decide to go to that particular establishment.

No NO NO NOOO!!!! no kids in taprooms allowed....Parents get used to their yappy cryin' ass babies and don't even notice it anymore-meanwhile your shrieking child is NOT what I want to hear after a long hard day at work. If an adult gets drunk and loud they get tossed...what's the difference??? Yes it's bad parenting but a 'no kids' rule takes care of that problem....

The selfishness displayed by some people is absolutely appalling. No, taprooms are not your own personal safe space where you hide away from those annoying creatures we call 'other people'. My 2 year old has been to more breweries than many of the so-called Beer "Advocates" on here. Never had a problem with our kids. Get a grip and realize that adults with kids occasionally like to do non-kid things every once in a blue moon and sometimes the kids need to come along. Instead of being your normal selfish jerk, try engaging with other people while you're out, including kids.

You'd probably do well to avoid Oklahoma during football season then, or when there's a Thunder game on TV.

It's so funny because when I read the first line of your post I assumed you were talking about the selfishness of thoughtless parents who bring their ill-mannered children to what most people reasonably assume is an adult environment. It's interesting that you say "never had a problem" with your children. Is that YOU have never had a problem, or other people haven't had a problem? I don't quite understand why it is that people with kids bristle at the notion that there are venues that are for adults only. When I was a kid, if my parents wanted to go to a nice restaurant or certainly a bar, they hired a sitter. R-rated movies, strip clubs, casinos and bars/taprooms--all of these places specifically cater to people and sell products that are only for those who are 18/21 years old, why exactly is it wrong to have these places be adults only? And, sorry, but I feel that it is parents who are too cheap or lazy to hire a babysitter when they want to do adult things who are the "jerks" in this scenario, not the adults who have to put up with your kid running over their foot 29 times with their scooter and hearing you say 1,000 times, "Bobby, sit down and eat your dinner." Peace!

That's all well & good. I hope when your 2 year old acts up (which is inevitable at that age if you're going to breweries all the time) you get the check & GTFO.

I have to disagree. I have 3 kids and no a taproom or bar is not a safe place to hide from "Other People" Its a bar, bars last time I checked are ADULT establishments. So would you have the same view for a strip club? Is it cool for little Billy to tuck a buck while you slug down a cold one? I think your a parent who feels entitled to bring your kids to ANY venue you want to and does not consider the adults there who are not wanting to be around a child. If they did they could go to Peter Piper Pizza and drink beer next to the game section then. I have 3 kids and love the bars/taprooms, etc. But I am also considerate enough to know that its not a place to bring my kids nor do I consider it my right! When I take my kids out it is not to drink and go to a bar. I take my kids to parks and kid friendly places for KIDS. I am shocked at all the parents who cannot get enough of the bar that they feel the need to do it with their kids.

^Says the person that obviously doesn't have any kids and will probably changer her mind after she does.

It's perfectly fine to take a well behaved child to a brew pub. Taprooms are a little iffy (just use your common sense). My rule is that if the establishment serves food it's probably O.K. to bring my kid, who is well behaved. Many taprooms and brew pubs are owned by people with kids so I'm sure they are fine with paying customers showing up with well behaved kids.

That being said if your kid is making a scene it's time to remove the kid from the establishment. Either calm the kid down, or go home. Having kids is a responsibility, and it shouldn't affect the people around you. My opinion is that if a kid is disturbing other patrons it's time to leave.

Bottom line.... Teach your kids manners and you'll be fine.

Part of it might be that parents nowadays don't get to spend as much time with the family as they would like, and are more inclined than were our parents and grandparents to want to spend as much time as possible during scant recreation hours.

I don't believe it is that parents think going to bars or taprooms with children is good for the children, I think they think it is good for them, the parents, to be able to do adult activities and also enjoy their children they may feel they haven't enjoyed often enough or well enough due to both parents have heavy work and activity schedules.

My thought is, when you have kids, you make sacrifices. Perhaps the taproom/brewpub is one of those sacrifices.

And I'm fine with them being there, I just hope people realize that when the kid gets fidgety, you need to start your exit plan then, NOT after the freak-out begins.

Hard accusation to toss around... she might have had an operation to fix this, whether by choice or not

FULL DISCLOSURE: Got my vas at 30 (11 years ago) by choice, didn't care for having kids.

That may be true, but it's still not a justification. Having kids is a choice. Once you have kids, you cannot reasonably assume that your life and your leisure time will be the same as before you had kids. Hell, I have a puppy, I'd love it if I could bring him everywhere with me, but that's not an option!
