I can see that conversation between the wine guy and his coworkers: "Do we have an employee named Todd who plays the guitar? A customer is looking for him, says he might be in the back."

Madarin Dragonet was good, but out of the 6 fish brews I had, it's towards the bottom.

    I'd rank em

    Spotted Puffer
    Emerald Grouper
    Crimson Snapper
    Sunburst Peacock
    Madarin Dragonet
    Fairy Basslet

Haven't had Black Tuna or Scarlett Betta

If Sure Bet was part of the fish series, probably would rank it third.

Eh, I say it counts. They specifically compared it to Square Grouper when it came out. Sure, it's a unicorn, but I like to think it's a fish series beer before they decided on the fish series!

Glad I passed on it. Just had a feeling I would be let down.

Honestly, as others have mentioned, you pretty much know what you get with the fish series. Yeah there's some variation, obviously, but the base beers are pretty similar, so if you like one, you probably like all of them to a certain extent.

But I'll give Dragonet a try tonight, and put my own words to the test. :stuck_out_tongue:

I had mine last night, and that's exactly how I feel...and also why I don't mind missing out on some of these now. I really enjoy them, but they don't vary much for me, and there are other things I also want to try.

I did pick up a Grungeist today to finally try.

For what its worth, I really enjoyed Mandarin Dragonet. Sure, its similar in flavor profile to the other fish beers - except this one had orange - but I still think they're good beers and enjoyed this one as I have the others.

Also I have to say this was the easiest PW fish beer to find. I grabbed a few bottles (owed my brother a couple bombers) without any difficulty.

Yeah, I'll pick one up once in a while (usually one I haven't had). They're all excellent, but I don't want to get tired of them (which I probably would if I grabbed every single one).

Had a Grungeist earlier this week & went back to grab another for this weekend. One of the best Ninja beers I've had in a while

It seems like it's been pretty well received, although I haven't bothered to go look at official ratings. IIRC, isn't this made from hops obtained from Hop Head Farms in MI? That makes me want it a little more since I like to hear of local/MI hops being used.

Grungiest tasted like piss & pine needles to me. Got through about 5 oz.

Not my flavor profile it seems!!

The taste of Rare is pretty muted on Grungeist, so that could be affecting the Chicago area ratings. I mean how good could a beer be if you didn't have to truck chase to get it...??

I mean, I just didn't like the beer. It could be a faberge egg & it would still taste bad to me...

:grinning: This is great, a wordsmith at work!

I think the grunge is pretty darn good. Up there with the other ninja brews. The tropical fruit aspect of Hop Heads' experimental (?) hop is enticing.

I actually stumbled upon a KBS today as well, weird...

Speaking of Black IPAs, will Black Tuna reappear again? That was the most pleasant surprise of the fish beers for me. Like most here Black IPAs don't hold much interest to me but there was something that struck a chord for me about that one.

And while on the subject of past Pipeworks, how about making a new batch of Unicorn Hits Rock Bottom? It's been way too long!

Stopped in my western suburban Binny's looking for Helldorado behind the service counter. They were selling KBS singles for $6 so I grabbed one (assumed they were one per). Also no Helldorado yet

What would you pay for a 4pk of a Fish series beer on a regular basis? $20? More? Less? Am I dreaming this will ever happen at any price?
