Does GABF use the BJCP style guidelines? If so, it's not surprising that hazejuice IPAs got shut out.

@ grilledsquid, I'm pretty sure they do.A generalized interpretation of Rule 14A does state that some IPAs may be unfiltered and appear more hazy in appearance, so I guess that would apply to the murky monsters out there ? Hell, I just drink the shit !

Hazejuice IPAs don't travel/store well. Great to sell right away at your brewery, not so good for competition.

And yet you see so many folks trade Monkish, Treehouse and Trillium like it's not a thing.

Anyone crack a bottle of BA Junior Junior yet? Only one rating here and Untappd seems all over the place.

Tasted it side by side with the spirit of that single barrel. Tasted fantastic.

This seems like an opportune time for a mod to lock this thread and force everyone into a new monthly/quarterly HPB thread. Pretty please?

cleaned up this thread and excluded the troll from future participation.

we'll weigh the monthly/quarterly concept for HPB.

    Interesting discussion going on here.

From my perspective I agree that it is definitely a risk aging clean beers next to sour beers. The goal is just to minimize those risks as much as possible. For us we don't cross over any equipment between clean and sour beer. I feel like this is more important than not housing those beers under the same roof. We do take that risk though for the opportunity to do something exciting or innovative.

In regards to Company of Parrots, yes, those bottles are over carbonated. Funny enough it's not because of contamination (though the beer does have tons of strains of Brett, Pedio, and lacto which give it some funk), but the saison yeast we use in that beer is incredibly unpredictable and is more of a super attenuater then any Brett strain we've ever used. We'll happily swap any of those gusher bottles out for another of our releases if any of you would like. Just email me at [email protected].

Was it batch 1 or 2 of parrots that was over carbonated?

Thanks for clarifying, Bob. Lots of folks jumping to conclusions without enough evidence or make false claims like diacetyl presence and what not. The yearly growth in popularity has some unfortunate side effects like the increase in overnight fermentation scientists and self-proclaimed super tasters.

I'll admit last night during the thread meltdown I opened my BA Junior Junior and quite enjoyed it (the beer, not the meltdown). It's still a little "hot", so if you don't like your BA stouts boozy maybe with time that'll change. Alas, as I no longer have one to age y'all will have to wait for someone else to report back.
