The lazier Susan that i opened shortly after release had diacetyl in it, but was very muted. I just waited a few months on the following bottles till it faded.

There's an interview with Bob on the latest Full Pint podcast. But goddamn every time I listen to their podcasts I want to donate money for a better quality mic and audio mixing skills.

I'm always kinda bothered by the host who knows absolutely nothing about beer lol

I like the interviews, the loose rapport that Javi and Danny have with one another and their guests, but you're absolutely right about the sound quality. It's been pretty rough on the ears multiple times when listening with headphones... Their voices are so low in the mix, and then the theme music comes blasting on in between segments. Goes with the territory of many podcasts, sadly. But that's not an excuse.

This, along with many years of concert-going starting in my early-late-teens, has contributed to my shitty hearing as I enter my late-mid-thirties....

Come on, @iluvBA4life! Help some bruthas out!

I'm looking forward to the shenanigans once that beer gets canned.

Just had my last One Up can, was seriously impressed by how much it improved by a few weeks in the can. Becoming more convinced to sit on cans, even if bought the same day as canning.

Less harsh at first taste, more bright and juicy (but not in a NE-style way) on the finish. Overall more balanced.

agreed, popped one over the weekend. The alcohol has integrated and softened, the trademark HPB softness on the palate is at the forefront. It is getting a touch malty right now, but it's still delicious. Such an easy drinking DIPA

i tried it last night. if we're going to compare it to NE style IPAs (including Monkish) i think it ranks on the lower end. appearance and mouthfeel were similar. personally did not get much hop aroma or 'juiciness'. it is only 5.5 percent. in full disclosure, i had this after having a Fremont Citra fresh hop IPA which is fucking incredible. would like to try again with a fresh palate

i kind of doubt it will have the line bros in a frenzy, but you never know with those guys

Makes sense. At 5.5 tough to extract a ton of depth on the palate compared to full blown ipas. Especially with hpb being on the lighter side to begin with

I've had plenty of 5.5-6% abv pale ales that blew me away. Plenty of complexity and with a clarity in flavor to allow the hops to come to the forefront without the alcohol getting in the way. Cellarmaker Neon Nights is a recent example at 5.8%.

Not saying they can't. Just tougher.

I disagree. If anything, it's easier to work at the lower range. Most DIPAs run into this problem for me because the malt backbone tends to be more prominent than I prefer.

I gotta disagree, or at least note that I haven't had many 5.5% hoppy beers that I've enjoyed more than a balanced 7% IPA. In fact, I don't think I've had any. But if you can bring a growler of Neon Nights down I sure would appreciate it. ;-)

Only if I get to place coffee orders for tuesday instead of thursday roasting. :grinning:

My preference is definitely for single IPAs, but if I had to choose between a DIPA and a pale ale, I'd go with the pale ale.

Next time I get a shipment of Carton Boat I'll bring some by. The best hoppy 4.2% beer you'll ever consume.
