He said the best retail beers available. That's why Sloop was left out.

I'd also add Finback and, depending on where you're located in NY, Carton and Magnify to that list. I'm guessing a lot of people here are from NYC. I hate to add to the echo chamber, but it's easy to get caught up in the Grimm hype machine due to the scarcity. Would people be going crazy and not care about the prices if cans were more readily available?

Grimm IPA cans are definitely not $6 on average. That's the absolute cheapest you'll find them. Average is probably $7-$7.50, with a 1-2 can limit everywhere.

Pipeworks stuff is like $16-$18 a 4pk and readily available. Captain's Daughter the same, slightly lower price point probably (but those are 12oz cans tbf).

Kane is the best in NJ. Carton is very good, but Magnify sucks. Finback is excellent and deserves way more hype then it gets. Their cans should sell out on release days with lines as long as Other Half. Singlecut too. Queens is killing it.

Thank you. Yes you can get a beer for less than Grimm, I don't think Sloop is close to what I listed.

So retailers should price each Grimm differently based on what public opinion is of each beer? "people don't like this beer so I will charge 4.50 per can and lose money on it". Your personal opinion of Grimm seems to be generally lower than most, but fact of the matter is I listed their biggest retail competitors, and Grimm is as cheap or cheaper than all. I will take a $6 Grimm over a $10 singlecut or barrier any day. If it is as cheap or cheaper than it's competition I would say it is very fairly priced, especially since retailers can easily charge more and still sell every last can. Also, pretty good deal that Albany sells SC for less than it cost from the actual brewery.

I spend $6 on avg for sure. I shop in brooklyn, est village, and whole foods. I spend 6 per at all the brooklyn shops, good beer, abc beer co, and 5.25 per at whole foods. Malt and mold at $7 raises the avg a bit. I absolutely spend $6 on avg.

I think in general that's how the market works. If people dont like something it sits and needs to be priced to sell. But we all know Grimm doesnt follow market norms and will never sit on the shelf for more than a couple days in this city no matter what it is. If people really have a problem with price they need to speak with their wallet.

Agreed with Kane, but do they distribute to retail locations? I've never seen their stuff in stores. Only at restaurants.

Yes and no. I could be wrong but I don't see retailers charging more for Full stack for example, over does anybody remember laughter. First and foremost the retailer needs to make money on a sale, so they can only go so low. But yea, like you said the beer is selling at the price point they have, which makes it a fair price point if we are going by what the market dictates. Gotta get to work... moral of story if a beer is priced = to or less than its competition it is fairly priced. Happy weekend all!

I also agree with Kane, they don't distribute bottles or cans. But, you can find them for Growlers fills.

Ok so the few places you go the average is $6. It's definitely not $6 average across all of the city. You're fortunate enough to get it for that, but at Whole Foods and whatever cheap bottle shops you're getting Grimm at, Singlecut is not $10 either. So either use the high-end pricing or the low-end, don't use the low-end for Grimm and the high-end for SingleCut to benefit your argument.

    Pass.

I am not using the low end or high end I am simply saying what my personal bottle shops sell each for. Good Beer is around $10 for SC after taxes and a drop over $6 for Grimm after taxes. Are you arguing singlecut isn't more expensive than Grimm? Are you saying Grimm is more expensive than its competition?

Between BK and east side of Manhattan I have gone to many many shops over these releases, I have never spent over $7 for a Grimm can. Not to mention wholefoods sells far and away more Grimm than any other retailer, and it is $5 a pop. If there is an odd shop or 2 that tries making an extra buck, that is on them. You have many options for reasonably priced grimm cans.

my usual spot is 6 or $6.50 for Grimm, $9 for single cut bottles.

Their bottles and cans are brewery only. I live in NJ and have friends that go for releases, so I get most of their packaged goods. I hope they start to distribute to stores soon. At least some cans of head high. Carton distributes a bit with their cans.

Most of their beers are not very good. Maine event was probably their best. I live 15 min from them and have tried a lot of their beers. I am not a fan. Just my opinion.

Well, we obviously have different bottle shop experiences. Where I pick up Grimm for $7/can, Singlecut is $8-$9 a bottle depending on what it is. Yeah, there's plenty of places that sell SC for $10/bottle, but you're not getting Grimm for $5/can there.

I'm not saying anything other than the fact that you are being misleading about beer prices to benefit your argument. SingleCut is on average, more expensive than Grimm, yes. Just not as much as you are saying.

Magnify is not Kane and Carton, but to say they suck is a bit much. They are easily the most widely respected North Jersey brewery. Just not comparable to Kane/Carton/Grimm yet. They certainly have longer term potential.

WF typically get their Grimms on Fridays. Anyone spot any in any of those yet?

Ok so it seems we are all in agreement that their competition is more expensive so lets put the "Grimm is overpriced" argument to rest. Moving on.

Yeah I've found cans at retail. I'm lucky enough to have a place that regularly has cans of Boat and occasionally dubs.
