Let me add my voice to those praising Bourbon Barrel Quad. In previous years the Brewers Reserve beers were WAY too boozy when fresh, but the 2016 Scotch & Quad releases lead me to believe they have turned a corner...bravo CW!

GABFU was much better this year in terms of crowds and how things were run. The biggest positive change was doing away with a separate line to purchase beer tickets and instead let each vendor take cash. The live music was also set up in a separate tent which worked well. All in all a big win for charity (Lettie Jensen Community Center) as the run/walk sold out which is the main reason for the event. Hopefully CW will continue to run things similar next year.

What's the difference in how the Black Gold bottles look 2016 vs 2015?

They look the same as last year. I am sure there is a vintage shown somewhere... didn't look that close.

I was wondering the same rhing. I grabbed a 15 BG when I got home and could not notice any difference between the 16 label. Maybe there us a stamp on the bottle I missed?
Great time at the party. Well done CW!

I didn't notice a difference either. I just put little circle stickers on top and marked the year down to avoid a mix up.

I'm sure I missed this somewhere in this thread, but did they sell out of black gold on the day of the release? I'll be driving by that area tomorrow and was wondering if i might get lucky and stumble upon a leftover bottle

Id highly doubt they didn't sell out of everything they had available for purchase on Saturday. Do they have more to randomly put out in the tap room...only they know the answer to that.

Stop by and ask, the worst they could say is "no".

Anello was saying that they would run out before the end of the line of ppl getting 2 bottles. Not sure if it was true. They are setting bottles aside for random releases for the locals, supposedly, so I doubt you would be able to ask for some and get any. Worth a call or if you are going to be there anyway just ask, the CW staff is awesome.

Day of BG release bottles sold out as I was in line. As previously mentioned, who knows when/if additional bottles are put out.

Beer Temple posted that they have it. So we should start seeing it around.

For what it's worth, HyVee in Madison (east) had a few 4-packs at the counter still. Not sure if they were a second wind or just residual from the initial drop. Cheers!

Having had them all now, IMO:

    BBSA >> Backwoods Bastard
    BBQ >>>> Boulevard BBQ

Glad to be able to grab CW this year.

    Agreed on both counts.

I thought the Boulevard BBQ was flat-out gross.

Just to follow up, while I like barrel aged beers, some are just way too boozy when fresh for my palate.

This was like someone dumped a shot of bourbon in it. Some of my friends love that kind of stuff, but it's gross to me.

I agree. Boulevard is too hot for me right now. Revisit in 3 months (ish) and I will see how it tastes then.
