I've been to many of the big name breweries in the LA and Orange County area. I'm looking to visit some other up and coming breweries in the area that are worth visiting. I'll be up this Sunday and have most of the day to go all over.

    I've been to:
    El segundo
    Three weavers
    Highland Park
    Hopsaint
    Monkish
    Smog city
    Phantom carriage
    Beachwood
    Bottle logic
    The bruery
    Noble

I've recently gotten my hands on a Mumford can. Is it worth stopping by the brewery?

Arts District has good house and guest beers and is in a unique building with skeeball, darts and a patio. Devon previously from Pizza Port is the head brewer. Head over to LACMA, MOCA or the California Science Center afterwards and that's a good day in LA.

Is Gunwhale open yet? If not, any idea when? If so, any reports?

I've heard good things about Good Beer Company. It helps to have many different recommendations because traffic may choose for me where I end up going.

Riip looks like my kinda modern place from the tap list, more so than Scholb.

We're going to be taking a friend around the sights, who is visiting from Canada. We have already basically done the major stuff we are interested in ourselves. My husband mostly goes up for the Filipino and Indonesian restaurants and for me Salvadorian.

Good Beer is solid, I do feel that some of their beers can use more carbonation though. For the food though you will most definitely want to hit up the 4th St. Market a few blocks away (5 min walking), think gastropub food court.

Riip can be busy during the day but super quiet at night, depending on the vibe you want. Thursdays they get free pretzels from the local BrewBakers as well as loaves of bread made with their spent grain from IPA's.

If you go to Good Beer (which I recommend), then check out Irenia (a new Filipino restaurant within walking distance, which I've heard great things about).

Not lesser-known but Firestone Walker Venice is worth going to if you're on the west side

MacLeod's in the valley is worth a visit. All cask ales. Good atmosphere.

Wow awesome. That sounds great (to me) and like the sort of thing my hubby would love (he is Filipino). Even better that our friend visiting is also Filipino.

I'm actually going up to Firestone Walker's original location as part of a road trip in late December but it is good to know they are already open at the new location.

Mumford is worth going to, good IPA's and stouts. MacLeod's in Van Nuys is mostly British-style beers (bitter, brown ale), which are not my favorite but they are quality. Craftsman is a long-time LA brewer that has no taproom but a good selection can be found at Lucky Baldwin's in Old Town Pasadena, which itself is a Belgian-centric pub worth visiting. Brewyard in Glendale has a friendly taproom with some hard-to-find styles (california common, ale'd lagers)

Would also add if you go to Mumford's you can also go to the Park, a Filipino-style BBQ restaurant with good craft beer selection just west of Downtown

Homage is real solid. Don't remember any of their beer names yet. Been there 3 times only. Really modern and chill atmosphere, strongly recommend.
