So my fiance and I are both into beer, and just found out that the venue we are having our wedding next sunday (Oct 7) just put in a kegerator, and will allow us to supply craft sixtels if we want.

our first idea was bitter american, as we both like the beer, and thought that it would be a hit amongst a group of both craft and non-craft drinkers. However, it is is not available except via special order and it is too late to add it to the distributors order being delivered this week.

I would love the feedback of the BA community as to suggestions. We are looking for a beer that is ideally, low ABV (say <~6), available in the central NJ area, and preferably has a decent hop profile, but can also be appreciated by non-craft drinkers.

    Any ideas?

Stoudt's Scarlet Lady ESB- 5%, pleasantly hoppy, crossover appeal- would be a really nice choice if you can get it.

    Congrats!

Unless you have an incredibly large amount of beer advocates in your families, I would just got with Sam Adams Boston Lager. That way you don't have BMC, but it's still something that the average Joe will drink. I feel like a keg of something nicer would just be lost on too many of the people at the wedding.

That being said, I would also bring a few nice bottles or a nice case of something for your fiance and beer advocate friends to enjoy. This is what I plan on doing at my wedding next year.

Do you get Captain Lawrence? Fresh Chester Pale Ale is good. If not, what about Dale's Pale Ale.

Good suggestion. After looking at the list, Dale's Pale Ale looks like an excellent choice.

Congrats and hope you save something special for the wedding party table. A Low hop suggestion... my wife and I served Hacker Pchsorr Hefeweizen. It had enough character to keep our BA friends interested but was not too big or bitter to turn off the "Lite" crowd. 1/4 barrel was emptied in under 2 hours.

Fortunately I'm lucky in that Boston lager will be available on one of their taps, so I can focus on the BAs. The suggestion of scarlet lady and also climax esb is fantaatic, I will also definitley check out JC's in Woodbridge, as they always have a few good things to grab.

    Really appreciate all the help.

Wow. Nobody mentioned Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. It's got all of the characteristics the OP wants:

I think a tradition is brewing (pun intended) to serve a beer brewed with honey in it for a wedding. A mead may also be a good choice. I don't have a specific suggestion for a beer with honey but some research may find one for you that is available in your area.
