I doubt these Clare howlers could be traded for practically any beer one might want but clearly that is what some people are doing with them, given the immediate FT posts on this site.

Had to leave before I finished my beers, sadly (family crap), but the Indignant flight is fantastic. I thought the youngest (7 month Woodford Reserve) and oldest (34 month Belle Meade) were particularly standout.

Luckily some of the Haymarket staff were standing next to me, and I got their assurances that they'd finish the beer for me.

Don't know if it was mentioned anywhere else but Binny's Grand has The Abyss and 2 variants out on the floor now. BA Brandy and Scotch as well as regular. Tons of regular and a few cases of the other two. Variants were something like 26 per and the regular was 15 or so, can't remember.

It wasn't that long ago that I would shake my head at the mention of $25+ for a single bomber. Now? Pfffft. That's become commonplace.

Those variants sound pretty cool. Too bad I'm tapped out (no pun intended) for the moment, or I'd grab one or more.

Yea, I thought about it for a minute while discussing with one of the beer guys but pulled the trigger on the 2. Figure I can get a regular next week. Had a little left on the gift card from my birthday so it made it easer.

I grabbed both variants over lunch - actually pretty excited to give the brandy barrel a try. The scotch I'm skeptical of, but I can always bring it to a share.

Has the Rye variant been out and about in Chicagoland at all?

I never got any of the variants last year. Just a regular Abyss.

I'm double-posting this since I know a lot of you guys like BCS Vanilla Rye--Binny's LP has bottles in their tasting room.

Yep, for $60. You left that part out on purpose, didn't you? :grinning::grinning::stuck_out_tongue::sunglasses:
Actually, that's not a bad price for VR but in the interests of seamless disclosure.

    Like I said. :grinning:
I have never known their tasting room to get outragous with prices regardless, though. And....they shouldn't.:stuck_out_tongue:

I didn't click on it, honestly. I don't really like VR that much (which makes me really happy), just figured I'd post it asap for you cretins!

LP had the Old Rip Van Winkle and Lot B bourbons when they first opened a couple years back (I think at least one of the bottles came back, but I missed it). I used to drink it there all the time for like $10 or 12 bucks a pour. A steal? No, but certainly a good deal, given the mark-up many bars have for anything related to Pappy. Their taproom is relatively well-priced, although I personally don't think $60 is a good price for any non-Rare BCS variant (but that's because I'm unwilling to let go of MSRP).

FYI, Vanilla Rye isn't on the Beermenus list anymore.

Cognac Abyss was really good, I do enjoy Cognac. Among the many beers I had at DLD I recall Cognac Abyss being very memorable and distinct. Haven't had the rye from 2015 yet, saving it for a themed Abyss night!

I never cared much for original Abyss, would love to try a variant at some point but the prices are too high for my liking.

This is how I feel, I think all the BA Deschutes stuff is great, but I can't say almost $30 great. I missed both Cognac and Rye and really wanted to try them out. I picked up Brandy this year and pretty stoked to see what it will taste like. I love black liquorice and liquorice tasting beers so hopefully it'll be good.

I missed both Bible Belt's and might trade for those.
