So I was lucky enough to win one of our Locals Fantasy Football leagues, and my first box of winnings arrived yesterday from North Carolina courtesy of @treznor

A few things I've had (all of which were terrific), a few wants, a few should-have-been-wants, and a few beers that may end up moving on to other Locals....but all amazing

Burial Brewing / Other Half I Left My Wallet In A Bed-Stuy Juice Bar-- I love the name, and actually already drank this one (last night)
Wicked Weed Black Angel - this one's a BBA cherry sour
Wicked Weed Angel of Darkness - another BA sour, with a whole bunch of berries and cherries
Olde Hickory The Event Horizon- this one's a stout, but yeah -- it's BBA (and brewed with honey)
Foothills Brewing BBA Sexual Chocolate- cocoa infused stout
Wicked Weed Lost Toys (Blend #1) - a newly-released sour
Wicked Weed Red Angel- this one's aged in wine barrels (and blended with raspberries)
Burial Skillet Donut Stout- one of my favorite styles - a breakfast stout

Thanks so much Mike -- terrific box with stuff that doesn't get up to New York (although rumor has it that Burial is gonna be here soon).

The couple that might've had out of that box, you probably actually haven't had

The WW Black Angel is actually WW Chocolate Covered Black Angel (was a one-time release, brewery only, which at this point is basically the only WW I'm sending out since I can never tell what their distro is these days). OHB EH is actually the Cocoa/Orange Spectrum variant (#2).

Didn't realize that Burial might be making it up to NY. That's pretty cool. I figured a NY/NC collab would a fitting beer to send you  I don't -think- Other Half had it as well, but its possible I'm wrong about that.

Oh very cool -- thanks! In my defense, I got home and quickly took a photo and scribbled down beer names, then relocated the beers and packing materials - I didn't cross reference my heiroglyphics against on-line descriptions until this morning. Just updated my spreadsheet (once I figured out it was EH Spectrum 2).

Your spreadsheet sat un-updated... over NIGHT? A travesty that can't even be comprehended! (Says the fellow spreadsheet tracker, who was a couple weeks out of date at one point recently).

Yep -- this morning involved updating my inventory tab based on what I thought you sent me, including the notes column (ie, "consider sending to whoever") and the "new tick" column; updating my inventory AND logged tabs to reflect what I drank last night, and then later re-updating based on my misidentification of a few of the aforementioned beers (which included updating the "new tick" column, which then necessitated a re-sort).

The only part of that I don't do is have a 'new tick' column since I use untappd for that. But maybe I'll export my untappd data, match it to my cellar spreadsheet, and add a new tick column... Technically I only log in a spreadsheet things that I've drunk out of my cellar as opposed to out at a bar or bottle share or friends house or something, so not really a 'logged' sheet.

There are multiple nerds amongst you

So I set up a deal with @Syracuse12 for 2 bottles of the Cake Break and this is the box he drops on me...

Do the "consider sending to whoever" and "new tick" beers get stored in specific areas of on the shelves, so that it would require a physical re-sort?

New ticks and old ticks are intermingled for the most part. Where possible I cluster beers of a particular style and/or particular brewery together (ie, I have a case of FW boxed beers, and a case that's mostly 12 oz imperial stouts), but getting them all separate would result in too much underutilized space.

As for stuff I'm sending, it's more of a flag to me to not necessarily drink it myself -- once I get close to shipping (I rarely send clown cars, but often send multiple compact boxes to multiple targets at once), I DO move them to a separate location (and "staged for shipping" is one of the locations in the drop-down on my inventory page, as is "on extra shelf - need to relocate")

So, I read this as meaning you need more FW boxed beers and 12 oz imperial stouts to maximize your space.

No, those were examples of beers that I DO have enough of to keep separate. I had to actually resist the urge to lay the FW box on it's side (so the tops of the boxes face out) with each row representing a year, since then my verticals would actually be stored vertically.

When clustering by style do you give each style a numeric value and use k-means, allowing similar styles to intermingle, or stick with categories and use k-modes?

You nerds are way to confusing for an old guy like me. I just write on the case with a sharpie what's in them. Then they all get stored in the cooler in the garage.
