Influence is tough to prove (although I can recall a number of brewers giving them direct credit in that regard) but it certainly seems to me that they were out in front of a LOT of the current trends in beer/brewing.

I get your comparison and why you're making it, but for me, threads like this (including your contributions) are a far more interesting exercise than the one you describe. @jesskidden 's posts here alone are worth a hundred GABF medal threads.

Have you tried the current Celis beer? Would love to get your take on it. I only saw it on the shelf once and I wasn't in a position to buy a sixer at the time.

I had it last year, although I can't keep up with what version it was . Something sticks out in my memory saying that Christine Celis doesn't have the name any more, and her version will be closer to the original when she makes it (???).

Anyway, the one I had was a nice and balanced beer, but it didn't wow me.

Everyone I know including myself who enjoyed Cellis White back in it's day feels the same way you do. For many people it was the first white they ever had and it set a very high standard for another brew to match. It's been a long time since anyone drank a Cellis White from Austin Tx. maybe it's getting better with age. lol

Maybe, but fwiw Michael Jackson had it as one of only a few 4 star American beers in his pocket guide .

Yep, that was my question. Sorry, I tried to find the most appropriate quotation to get that point across, but I had a hard time finding one that articulated/referenced it correctly.

Not an American version, but how do you feel about St. Bernardus' Wit?

Absolutely, there's not measurable way to prove influence. I certainly wouldn't vehemently disagree with the premise that Hill Farmstead influenced other brewers.

But they were founded in 2010 too, and the only style I can think of that they brew which has been duplicated, is the "New England-style" IPA. But Heady Topper would be the one to credit with that.

    Maybe their litany of Saisons?

St Bernardus is probably my favorite at the moment, but I haven't had it much since they introduced the Extra 4, which I've been leaning towards. Maybe I feel a tasting coming on, alongside a few others...

I would have to say Sierra Nevada Pale Ale on the west coast and Sam Adams Boston Lager on the east coast. I am no expert but it seems to me that they got the craft beer revolution rolling for most beer drinkers.

With the exception of a few new beers this looks like they pulled 25 beers from the Top 100 back when I first joined BA nearly 11 years ago.

Her version will be from the brewery/label "Flemish Fox". The brewery is being set up now.

Peter Bouckaert said that it was based on Palm at the 2003 NHC.

Jeff, have you ever tasted Fat Tire and Palm side-by-side? If so, how close are they for your palate?

I recognize that Palm is brewed in Belgium but in your opinion would you classify this beer as a Belgian Beer Style (e.g., a Belgian Pale Ale) vs. an Amber Ale?

    Cheers!

I haven't done a side by side, but I did find them incredibly similar to one another. I even used to suggest Palm Amber as an East Coast substitute before New Belgium hit the region.

    I don't think so.
Because "freshness" was not a feature of IPAs, traditionally.

Similar enough that you would suggest they are in the same Beer Style?

    Cheers!

Respectfully, I think Blue Moon paved the way for mass-drinkable non-lagers more than witbier in particular. It would be difficult to pinpoint how Blue Moon either rode the wave of witbier or perhaps guided it, but Allagash White is profoundly more witbier, in its essence. As a stalwart flagship rather than pure market reaction, I think Allagash is more deserving, "craft" label be damned.

The beer existentialist/anti-existentialist would ask if those can't be the same thing or nothing at all.
