    The Great American Solar Eclipse

The shadow will scream across the pacific at 3,885 k/ph and hit the Oregon coast at 10:15:58 a.m. on August 21, 2017. My first choice of where to be, if brewery based, would be Pelican Brewing sipping on a Mother of All Storms, right on the shore, but, this is the Oregon coast and if all I experienced was fog clouds darkening, my soul would be crushed! Thought I might be drinking Deschutes the day of the eclipse but they are in the sun, at least I'll be in Bend before the event. I recently had a Tough Love, which I very much enjoyed. I google earth my surroundings in Bend and no shit, Crux Fermentation is walking distance from my room, further is Deschutes and further still are several small breweries!

We, my wife and daughters, spend the next night in Madras, the night before the eclipse.
17 seconds before totality we'll see Mt Jefferson go into shadow, we'll be sitting on the edge of a dam.

I plan on being alive, a short term goal, we've been talking of this for near a decade yet I've still to decide what I'll be drinking.

Have you considered the eclipse, have you thought of what you might be drinking?
Do you know a brewery that will be in totality?
    cheers
    jd

I will be in Casper WY. Don't know if there are breweries. Saw the one in 99 in Germany, this one has been on the radar for a long time. Beer will come later.

Hey Rk - It would be a fantastic to cheers the eclipse on your son's 1st but you'll need to travel a good bit to see totality as the closest states would be Nebraska or the corner of Kansas & Missouri.

You are one of the lucky ones as Casper should be perfect - when rating the 10 best places in the US to see totality based on the likelihood of the weather cooperating - Caper is often rated #3 !
I've yet to visit Pelican and Mother of All Storms is the finest barleywine I've ever had. Being right there where the ocean meets the land seems special although it might be overrun with druids and the likes who may think so too !

    Cheers to Ya All

Yeah. It won't be totality here in Texas. I'll have to talk to the wife about traveling. Possibly take a trip to Nashville?

But even if we stay here the sun should be at least significantly obscured so will still be interesting.

At the Pelican a nice breakfast and then a beer outside watching the surfers and the guys launching their wooden dories through the surf is pretty special.

My goodness, that's like still life film noir sci fi. I love it. Wheels are turning. Maybe atop Elk Ridge Mountain with a 360 view.

I saw the one in 1999 at my grandparents place in cornwall, it was a great experience. I see the next one in the uk isn't until 2090 . Don't think I'll make that one.

Try and go somewhere with lots of wildlife, they go mental during totality.

We are actually saying in Cheyenne, driving up to Casper before the eclipse. Casper has an astronomers convention going on, is totally booked up, go figure.

Let me know which one you like when they open.

I'm an amateur astronomer as well as an amateur beer drinker. LOL. Fat Canvas and Skull Tree should be open by then. The brewer at the latter is a friend of mine and was the former brewer at the now defunct Wyoming State Brewing Company.

Here in southern Illinois we're right in the center of totality. Big Muddy Brewing is right in the center of totality and having a big event (https://www.carbondaleeclipse.com/event/big-muddy-brewing/). I haven't heard yet of any other breweries having events, but we do have several other breweries in the path. Ozzy Osbourne is performing during the eclipse at a big festival at a winery.

Thanks - Bend isn't very big but brewery per capita is really high!

Thanks rg - my absolute first choice would be on a mountain top towering over lowlands with crystal clear skies. To actually see the shadow approaching would be mind blowing.

Funny what you wrote as this was a fundamental question I had to answer. I've two massively dissimilar options - attend the Solarfest and be tightly surrounding by folks about to go mental, I don't expect it will be quiet. Or go to the place below with just my family.

Hey dl this is exactly I was hoping to hear - that makes two breweries I know of that will enjoy totality

Fantastic location. There is a Central Coast Photography Meetup - meeting in the parking lot. I've thought about photographing this but have decided no.

    cheers everybody

Grand Teton National Park is the only national park that is in totality...I would love to be there. No clue what breweries are out in that area.

The Annual one hit my area in 2012. Quite the sight. I think I was sipping homebrew wearing a welding helmet.. Hard times.

Without being in the path, will there be partial effects?

Idaho Brewing Company in Idaho Falls is in the eye of the storm. We are supposed to be one of the best places to see it. Every hotel room up and down the Snake River around here has already been sold out for months from what I understand. They are actually allowing people to rent out their pastures, yards whatever for people to camp on. We are expecting an influx of 300,000 plus people. Will be overwhelming for our area if that actually happens..... Yazguars farm Idaho style if you will...

There are some good maps here. It is up to you to find your brewery.

When I saw the one in Germany in 1999, the traffic afterwards was terrible. Expect the same this time too.
