Chicago Stout Releases (2018)

I've only had the Cherry Term-Oil and I'm not a huge whale hunter, but I thought it was absolutely fantastic. I've never had a cherry stout that has actually done it right like the Cherry TO. Mouthfeel was on point, cherry was very subtle but still present, and was very chocolatey. I've been hoping that some of their other TOs they'll be cracking will have some cherry in it as well.

Stouts will always get a bump in rating because they're from TG.

The mouthfeel on Assassin is heavenly (as you can tell by my new avatar, I was a big fan of the beer) and I've had very very few things on that level. Overall, I think it's a high end, straight up non-adjunct BA imperial stout. Im debating trading for it again because I liked how the whole beer was put together so well.

 

Some doucher on Instagram said that RAM was pouring this years Chaos 2017 at some Rosemont beer fest this weekend. Can anyone confirm / deny? I said itw as probably Cocoa Chaos- the beer RAM brought to FOBAB. Neckbeard online was saying it "wasn't that good", which is what sparked me because at Chaos day, Chaos 2017 was one of the better stouts I've tried in a long while.

 

No shit which is why you have to give up your first and second born child to get it.

 

Yeah, this is what I've been told as well. It'll probably come down to taste for me (as in, does it taste as good/better than my favorite BA stouts), but I'm definitely very curious to try it. Given that I don't really trade though, it'll probably be quite a while.

 

Shaun posted on his IG page last week he was bringing Chaos 2017 (not Cocoa) and NE Slapper to ICBG Winterfest at Rosemont, so that adds up. As to "not that good"? Fucking blasphemy.

To be fair, he said Chaos, not Chaos 2017. I thought that meant he was bringing the base stout. It gets confusing with the names, so who knows.

@shaun_the_brewer Can you confirm what you were pouring last weekend in Rosemont?

 

Yeah, I get confused for sure. Add barrel aging and adjuncts to the base stout (Chaos Theory) but subtract a word from the name (Chaos).

 

To be "fair," 1) the original questioner didn't know Shaun posted on IG Chaos was going to be served, period and 2) the only other beer known simply as "Chaos" is Chaos 2016, and when people bring something other than the current vintage, they specify (aka "BCBS on tap" is presumed to be current vintage, whereas special is BCBS 14, etc). For FOBAB or other tappings he specified Cocoa Chaos or the other variants. You can say "who knows," but that would be presuming Shaun was pulling some bait and switch by being deliberately misleading and then not actually bring the 2017. You have to go out of your way to read anything else into his post. Is it so hard to believe he brought his best 2 recent beers to a fest taking place within a month of their release?

 

Did some creeping on untappd checkins and saw a picture of their booth. They had a sign that said Chaos 17 and NE Slapper, plus 2 other regulars. And a few of the check-ins say something to the effect of "holy coconut batman"!

Issue resolved, methinks.

I think it's clearly you. You correct me without knowing what you're talking about as to the names of the beers then start demanding answers from the brewer because you're too lazy to look on Untappd or any FB post related to the event?

 

Haha. I looked at Untappd and there are check-ins under 3 or 4 different Chaos beers. Good point.

Back on topic, anyone going to venture out and grab the Marz Barrel Aged Corrupt Polish Imperial Stout?

Or the Pipeworks/Marz collab (which is half stout)? I'm not totally sold on this one, so I'll defer to others to be brave and provide some feedback.

 

Can confirm. It was Chaos 2017 and it was spectacular.
